1996 e320d cranks but wont start. red and green lights flashing on mirror. think might have something to do with alarm, or start lock

    Already have tried the battery replacement on my remote. No help but also car has died just driving it and when I go to start red and green lights are flashing. Wish I could just disable alarm

How many car keys do you have.If you have 2 keys, then try with both keys and see if it starts and then runs.--------- This red and green light blinking on mirror is indication of weak remote battery.But in your case the remote battery is already been replaced and problem is still the same with new remote battery.------- So try this procedure first.------- Disconnect the car battery for 5 minutes.Clean the battery terminals with contact cleaner.Then reconnect battery terminals and turn the car on by key and see if its helping.-------- But if the problem is exactly the same then this problem is related to key.It has to be reprogrammed.The key has a code in it.When the key is connects the ignition cylinder.The code is read by ignition lock cylinder chip.But if this code is not getting read then it will not let the fuel pump to start.The car will start,but fuel pump will not get command , so car will crank and shut off.------- In this case the car key and ignition cylinder chip needs to be reprogrammed by the dealer.That will let the key to transmit its code to ignition lock cylinder chip and car will start and let the fuel pump to run.---------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

The most common cause is a bad battery in the key fob. Try a different key fob or replacing the battery in the existing key fob to rule out a bad battery. From there, you may need to resynch the fob to get by the security system preventing you from starting the car. The synchronization process is as follows:

  1. hit the button briefly twice while aiming at the interior mirror
  2. then within 30 seconds, insert the blade in the ignition lock and turn to position 2.
  3. Start the car

Generally speaking, you have a chip in the key that is read by the security system. If the system does not "see" the right chip, the system locks out the ignition and fuel systems.
The new key probably does not have a chip or the wrong chip.

Lock: Left button will lock all doors. Double chirp indicates locked.
Unlock: Right button will unlock driver's door only. Hold unlock button app 6 seconds, it will unlock all doors including rear gate. Single chirp indicated unlock.
If the car chirps or lights flash 4x the alarm was triggered.
Panic. Press both buttons to activate emergency honk and flashing lights.
Valet mode: With optional alarm onlyPress the red alarm button on the left of the steering wheel. The light will quickly double flash. To re-set back to normal mode, press the red alarm light button again

Battery failed and lights flashing?
Parking lights will flash when the vehicle's battery is disconnected and reconnected.
To stop lights from flashing, either:
Press remote transmitter "UNLOCK" button once OR turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and press programming button for one second (see below).
The vehicle interior (courtesy) light and door open warning light (DOOR AJAR indicator) will then illuminate for 60 seconds when the ignition is turned off, or until the doors are locked with the remote transmitter. Yes, the dashboard instrument panel lights will flash when the parking lights flash.

Programming or Overriding the Alarm when you have lost the remote
Open driver's door.
Turn ignition key to 'On'
Press and *hold programming button* in (see diagram, button under dashboard)
After 15 seconds the the door locks will cycle 3 times. Do not release Programming button.
Press lock (left) button the remotes to be programmed. The door locks will cycle one time. Exit programming mode by releasing Programming button under dashboard and turning key to off.

If you can't find it, it might still be tucked up in the wiring harness higher up in that same general area. The botton is recessed in a plastic ring (see diagram).
This button must be pressed while programming remotes or if the battery was disconnected and the lights are flashing.

I need to disable my alarm on a 1997 bmw 528i.

Now im not sure since the manual says your model has the same alarm system as the 328i and on the 328i you can remove the module to disable by doing the following. you can unplug the control module. It is located under the glove box. Climb under the dash on the passenger side and remove a few screws on the trim panel under the glove box. Theres a black control module with a green connector. There should be a lock tab on the connector. press the lock tab and pull out the connector. The alarm should now be disabled. But if it has the special transponder key this may not work.
But if the only reason you want to disable it is because of the motion sensor setting of the alarm for no reason there is a solution for this. To disable the motion sensor, hit the lock button to arm, then hit lock button again within four seconds to disable motion sensor. Red light on rearview mirror should flash four times, then pause, then start flashing on regular intervals. this is most likely the reason if your having the issue where the alarm goes off every 20 minutes.
If you want to completely remove it below is a wiring diagram taken from the manual for you alarm system.

My mercedes c240 will click but wont start

My Mercedes C-Class 1996 won't start up, the alarm is confused it thinks it's locked, every time i unlock it, the red light( locked) and green light(unlocked) flash at the same time constantly, if I open the car and try turn on the engine, the alarm starts blaring, I've turned it on before and drove it around but when i came to park it up it did not turn on again because of that problem.( The car hasn't been touched or used for a year before i got it going again)

Have the diesel version 1996 e class. something

With the diesel engines you have to let the ignition coil warm up before you will have any luck cranking it. Diesel cars are no good in subzero temperatures. I had the same problem with my 92 300D Turbo and when i took it to MB they told me it was because i wasnt letting the coils heat up long enough.

Point remote at mirror
Press lock/unlock button twice

Within 30 seconds turn ignition to position 2
Should reset if you have no other problems with immobilizer

LED lights for locking and unlocking flash at the same

that system is part of D.A.S. 2( driver authorization system verson 2). the lights in the mirror will blink red when lock and green when unlock. during the self diagnoses portion they will blink simutanilusly when the remote key batteries are low and alternating when there is a malfunction with the key or other part of the driver authorization. it sounds like your remote key central locking batteries are low.
