I have a 2001 Ford Mustang V6. For a while now my car has made a rattling sound whenever I turn it on, when I am idling, and sometimes when I accelerate. I haven't noticed any real consequences yet, but the other day on my way home from work the temperature gauge began increasing towards the red area. It's late August in Central Texas, and I had been in stop-n-go traffic for a while. I turned my A/C off for a few minutes, and as traffic started flowing I turned it back on and the needle moved back to a normal position. It hasn't gone back up again, but I am worried that I might burn my engine up. Any suggesitons?

Rattles could be anywhere in a car. Most of the time it is a bolt that has loosened and allowing something to move back and forth. Suggest you try to localize the rattle to which area of the engine from sound and then push and pull on items and see which one moves in that area.

Most of the things that would rattle, are not things that would cause over-heating, so I wouldn't worry on that account.

How do we do an idle relearn on a 2001 mustang 3.8 V6?

to reset an ECM (CPU) program it will be necessary to use a scanner tool. The idle program is already in the cpu so all it takes is to reset the corrupted cpu program

Vacuum hoses

I realize that fixing yourself & saving money is the way to go

The problem is,that there are lots of hoses,we don't know as you
don't, what the real issues are or if hoses are even a problem

So if you have no back yard mechanic friends, you have to go
to a repair shop.

I have a 2000 ford mustang v6 I was putting 89 octane gas in it. my manual said to burn 87 octane so i'm burnning 87 now .but when I accellerate I get a knocking, rattling sound took it to a ford dealer...

Humm, give it some time. there are upper cylinder cleaners, but I worry about converter damage, and oxygen sensor damage. The lower the octane, the hotter and more masssive the burn, exactly backwards from what you would think, but higher octane is slower burn and av.gas is really, really slow.
Ford has had slow to start issues that traced back to drivers using too high octane....

Still, if it keeps pinging, you may need to run higher than spec octane.
I would have thought that your car would have knock sensor that would trim this issue...

2001 v6 ford mustang. when i try to start it it cranks like it wants to start but it wont, it just started doing that more consistent

Well, I have an 01 V6 Mustang as well. I am having the same problem. It is an intermittant problem with the PATS system. What i normally do is to disconnect the battery and let it sit. Sometimes it takes a few hours, sometimes overnight. I am actually on my way to have a remote start unit installed. The remote start unit will include a PATS bypass module. I will return to let you know how it works.....

1999 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra and a rattling sound

as for the rattling sound have you checked the heat shield on the catalytic converter, mine was loose and was causing a rattling sound when it was at idle, and would go away as the rpm's increased.

Noise under intake manifold

best thing to do is to take the intake and valve covers off, its possible you may have inadvertently sucked something up and it's in you intake. That is the best solution.

No telling what it is until you take things apart and take a look. It shouldn't be too hard, make sure you get new gaskets, gaskets are cheap anyways.
