One reason why an automatic transmission isn't shifting into gear has to do with the fluid. If it's not at the right level or the incorrect type has been used, ...

Fluid may be low or dirty. On automatics, check the level with engine on while in park. Could also be a shift solenoid, governor, speed sensor (on electronic transmissions). Just to cover all the bases, make sure the shifter is in the proper gear (some cars have 2 "D" positions) and make sure that, if there's an "Eco" button, that it's on.

is this a console shift? if so its most likely not getting the signal that its in park. There is a switch on the shifter that wont the key be removed without the vehicle being in park.

Its a gear shift issue.

The shifter needs to be inspected. The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.

There are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and suddenly this occurred then its shifter assembly alignment issue.

assuming truck shifts into all forward gears, synchronizer broken or shift lever damaged inside transmission housing.

Check the shift interlock solenoid that it is working. Try depressing the brake while shifting.

It's the white bushing on the end of the gear shifter can be fixed easily from inside the truck. Just remove gear shift leaver an it's on the end.

The starter solenoid is defective, replace it.
