Check for a bad brake light fuse! if not the fuse, the brake light switch operates brake lights and if bad you will not be able to shift it out of park, as well as the brake lights not coming on.! because you have to put foot on brake to do so. if bad switch, it wont let it out of park. it could be just out of adjustment also!! good-day !

Have replaced the brake light switch in my 1997 GMC Sierra, but still have no brake lights. All other lights are working fine. All bulbs and the dash fuse have also been replaced. Is there more than one fuse that could be related to this problem? Any other suggestions what could be causing the problem?

Can I use a 97 GMC Jimmy brake booster to replace a 98 GMC Jimmy brake booster? I'm buying a vehicle and need this part but found a 97 way cheaper than the 98 and they look the same! TIA

I don't if that differs between manufacturers? I looked at rockauto.com for your brake booster, cardone part for your vehicle lists 97--2005 for your vehicle, brake booster.
If all the hook-ups are the same as the one your looking at, I don't know why it wouldn't work?
You know how it is, I see nothing from here.

Vacuum leak from brake booster. If you hear a sucking noise when you press the brake pedal replace it. Another way to check it is to place truck in gear set e-brake press brake pedal repeatedly and see if idle goes up and down. DO NOT PRESS GAS PEDAL DURING TEST.

Car will not go into gear while running

Check your brake lights. There is a switch on the brake pedal that actuates a release solenoid for the shifter. If this switch is bad, it won't shift out of gear and most likely the brake lights won't work.
Replacing this switch should fix your problem.

My 1994 toyota Corolla will not switch out of park to reverse or drive and the brake lights won't come on no matter how hard I press on the brakes. I have changed the brake light switch and even...

There is a small plasic acess cover (1/2" x1/2") on the base of the shifter. Pry it open and press the button. You should immediately be able to shift. The button is needed because the sensor on your brake pedal is broken (won't activate your brake lights either). Use the button on your shifter to get your car home or to the mechanic so you can get the brake switch fixed. Remember whern you drive you have no brake lights. -Mark
