The power flow for the brake lights goes like this: Fuse ->Brake switch -> Turn signal switch -> Rear lights. The only difference is, if you have a 3rd brake light in your rear window, that gets its power directly from the brake switch. It does not go thru the signal switch first. So, if you are having a brake light problem, and your fuses are good, check the 3rd light in the rear window, if it lights up (assuming the bulbs are good, no one ever changes them), then the problem is most likely in the turn signal switch, hope this helps!
Thiers lots of brake lights and if they all don't work you might have a blown fuse. you have a high mount brake light also that works on the same fuse and as they fail sometimes they overload the system and blow the fuse. The fuse is in the underdash fuse panel and it's marked on the fuse panel door which one. If your car hasn't had fuse problems in the past there are also spare replacement fuses in the panel and they are marked on the door as well. with a helper have them watch the brakelights the first time you try it as their may be a short thats going to blow the fuse again. While their watching put the brake on and the lights that don't light are the one with the short as the high mount is well known to melt and short. If it blows the fuse right away and you can't seem to find it the taillights can be unpluged as can the high mount. Unplug them all and them see if the fuse blows puhing on the brake. If it does'nt plug just one light in and try it if it works OK it's good them another till you find the bad one. Then fix that one or replace it.

Hello, Ok if the fuses and bulbs are good you will need to check the brake light switch this is the most common problem when fuses and bulbs are good. The switch is located under the dash, You can find it quickly by looking at the top of the brake pedal, You will notice that the brake pedal arm when depressed will make contact with the switch. You will need to take the switch off and take it to the parts store and let them test it for you unless you have a multimeter, If you do you can check the switch without removing it by placing the meter on dc volts and putting the red lead into one side of the plug and the black one on a good ground make sure the key is turned to the on position then you should have 12 volts on one side of the plug but not the other until you press down on the brake pedal then you should have voltage on both sides if you only have voltage on one side with the pedal down that means the switch is bad.. When you see the switch you will see very quickly how to take it off!!! it is simple. Good luck
