Engine light on. went to auto parts store, they diagnosed number 2 or 3 cylinder not firing. prior to this i changed plugs and wires. then i changed the coil. the engine light went off and the gas economy increased. then the light came back on. talked to someone at pepboys and he said there is a wire that comes with the spark plug wire kit, like a ground wire? i kinda sorta remember seeing one in the box, but ignored it.. is there a wire that comes in the plug wire kit? i'm ready to buy new plugs, plug wires, and a coil. am i on the right track?

Hello mikew564.The first diagnosis was number 2 or 3 cylinder not firing. Once you changed the coil, the check engine light went off. When the light came back on again, did you get it diagnosed again to find out if the problem was the same?... 2 or 3 cylinder not firing????

First of all, there is NO extra wire/ground on the coil/ignition wiring (see images below). The spark plugs and ignition plug wiring can be checked for arcing, corrosion, resistance and can be checked for cracks in the insulators or worn electrodes (and spark gap) by a competent mechanic.
If you are having the same issue (2 - 3 misfire), there are several techniques for eliminating the plug wires or spark plugs. Spray water on the plug wires to see if they are arcing. Swap plugs from cylinders 2 & 3 with cylinders 1 & 4. If you still have a 2-3 misfire, check/inspect/examine the coil connector pins & coil harness to the coil(s) themselves.

My 2001day Ford Escape XLT has check engine light on. The parts store pulled the codesand its a gear 3 ratio issue and a miss fire on first and second cyl. Could these two be related or does the gear ratio...

Gear ratio does point to an internal transmission issue. The misfires can easily be diagnosed by swapping thing around and seeing if the code follows. For example misfire in cylinder number 1 & 2 swap coils to cylinder number 3 & 4 and if the code changes from P0301(2) to P 0303(4) you know you need coils.

Had engine light on and running ruff. Had code checked at auto parts store and it shows misfire on clyinder 2. How do I locate cylinder number 2 on a 2004 Chrysler 6 cyl Pacifica

Most front wheel drive V6 chrysler engines are as follows: standing on passenger side of car facing engine, cylinders 1-3-5 are on the left bank, cylinders 2-4-6 on the right. Standing at the hood facing engine (front of car) #2 is on your left front corner of engine. Change / check plugs and wires before doing and deep sensor testing.

I have a 97 chevy tahoe. I changed the spark plugs, wires, distrubutor cap, rotor. About 300 miles later engine light came on. I thought maybe cheap distrubutor cap and rotor was cheap. I went to auto zone...

the number 6 cylinder is located (if you are looking at it from the front of the car) it is on the left side third cylinder back from the front. you probally have a bad injector that is just dripping fuel into that cylinder.

Changing spark plugs

if i am not mistaken, half of the plugs are on the bottom of motor, follow the plug wires, they'll take you right down to them...
if you have a sideways motor, i think they're all on the passenger side, about midway down.
