Last weekend my XTerra started chugging and I barely made it home going 20 miles an hour. My husband thought it was the timing belt, which he replaced and it is not fixed. He now wants to reset the pcm, but is having trouble locating it.

The ECU.. and pulling the battery for a few minutes will reset it.
Also, if the spark plugs or distributor is going out, it will cause these exact symptoms. After replacing the distributor, check the timing with a timing light, as the distributor mount can be adjusted and you need to set it right.
Also, when he did the timing belt, did he also do the bypass hose, water pump, and possibly the camshaft seals? It's best to do it at that time since they are all there

My Xterra Won't Start

I find it dubious that a vehicle 13 years old only has 61 thousand miles on it. They are 4 cylinder engines and the belt needs to be changed every 65 thousand.

2000 vw beetle will not accelerate

You need the engine control computer scanned for faults, do that first.

My sidekick will just die or barely run it died

last year, OBD1 car (dumbb ECU)
no scan tools for it
if you run on the road with that hack , and wreck
expect a nice fire. fuel fire.
if you used a voltmeter and say 12vdc there, all hotwiring stuff
need not be done. (
it stalled (misfire)
and then would not what? start but cranks ok?
4wd?
3sp ,4sp auto or 5speed stick
16v engine or 8v, both are G16s but EFI radially different.
16v is MPI with 4 injectors, 8v is 1 injector TBI
try a new
cap,.rotor spark wires and spark plugs yet?
cant burn fuel with bad spark
i guess the cam bent did not slip as it run ok later, but is 60,000 mile belt. and will slip ignored.

next time it stalls
check headlamps they work, and all electric
then see if CEL glows key on, i must or ECU lost power
it has 3 fuse that can rust, IG coil, FI, and DOME.
the CEL must glow, is first checks.

Have nissan xterra 2002 133000 miles. Stoped at stop light last night and timing belt broke. Was at a complete stop when this happened. Could this have messed up the engine on bend a valve.

its known as an interference engine however since it was idling i would give it 60/40 your favor.put a belt on it and hope for the best!

For a 2001 nissan xterra when should the timing belt be replaced

On a 3.3L engine V-6, Nissan recommends replacement every 105,000 miles, note that this is an interference engine, that piston to valve damage will happen in the event of a timing belt failure.

Xterra with 2.4L and 4.0L have timing chain only, no timing belt.

2000 Xterra hesitateing, backfireing, not accelerating above 20mi

Airflow sensor very well may cause it , and Throttle position and temperature sensor too.
All of it has to be checked with good scaner , that can monitor values and data from ECM.
You need to find a better shop.
