I
can tell you that most often this is a hydraulic pump failure. Are you
seeing any signs of fluid leaking? This is one major cause of this
problem. On the right rear quarter panel, remove the upholstery cover
and you will see the hydraulic metal feed lines. Follow them till they
go into the cylinder. Check the cylinder connectors and where the shaft
goes into the the top of the piston. Is there any fluid at all in this
area.
Also, if you need to get the roof up and the roll bar down,
list the rear hatch that the roof rolls up into and you will see a
release lever there that you can manually disengage and this will enable
you to get the roof up and the roll boar will come down. Sometimes the
roll bar will not disengage, do not worry, the roof will not contact
this point. The roof will just roll right over the top of it and it will
not be harmed.
Let me know if you find any hydraulic fluid on
the shaft. Also, if you pull out your spare tire, the hydraulic tank is
located under the tire, check the level of fluid. If low, ONLY USE THE
RECOMMENDED MERCEDES FLUID FOR YOUR CAR AND FILL TO THE FULL LEVEL ON
THE TANK. DO NOT OVERFILL.
Try resetting your controllers memory.
Disconnect the battery for about an hour. The memory lasts upwards of an
hour without battery power, and I don't
know how long it may last in extreme cases.
If the red light stays on after that, please let me know, and we'll walk
through the next steps. Do yourself the favor of locking all locks
manually if your top is up, or locking the tonneau cover if the top is
down. That way, the controller can start from a position where
everything appears logical if all switches are giving the proper
signals. This is usually the first line of defense before going through a
battery disconnect to erase memory.
If the top is down, make sure the rear locks are both open. That
way, you avoid giving the controller illogical signals. The rear locks
sometimes get messed up that way when the hard top gets removed
manually. (For the advanced reader: the 90-94 controllers are actually
more forgiving in this respect, because the rear locks have two read-out
switches per rear lock, as opposed to one switch in late model years.
That makes it a bit easier for the early model controller to discern the
status of the locks.)

Ithink you need a new computer in the boot ,the one that operates the roof ,something is wrong and may be a failed micro processor
Inspect the motor, which operated the top and its connections:---
the motor and fluid reservoir for the electric soft top is located in the trunk of the car. remove the spare tire- hardware, under black plastic cover where spare tire sits- is located. remove the 3 - 10 mm nuts that hold black plastic cover in place and lift cover straight up, the soft top motor and reservoir is located there.
-------
If the motor is checked ok and still the soft top, windows and roll bar not working and light is blinking.------
You may need to rsyn the windows. At the motor assembly there should be a black relay, remove the cover to the relay and push relay and see if motor runs the soft top roll bar and window relay-module is located behind passenger seat compartment on the floor. You must re syn windows before soft top will work. I have seen alot of these soft top modules go bad from jump starting dead battery or due to short in wires. First the window needs to roll down then the top will work. But if window is not working at all then , window motor and switch needs to be inspected. If the switch and motor is checked ok by meter. Then its module problem.-------
The roll bar is also controlled by the soft top module.----------
The module needs to be tested and replaced.----------There is a relay attached to the soft top pump motor in the trunk , many a times that gets faulty and this problem is seen.-------
This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.
The control module has set a fault and it will have to be reset. They are sensitive to voltage & must have 12 volts to operate properly.
The windows and top will need to be resync. I cannot find any information regarding the diagnostic procedure for the roof ..
it states there is a procedure to diagnose the fault with the number of flashes
the switch makes .. a dealer may be your best option on this fault .. I hope this helps some.

I followed your complete instructions regarding how to solve my window /top/ roll bar issue without any solution. I further analyzed a potential problem which is the driver door lock is not positioned or "seated"
as the passengers door lock, please advise me on how to "sync" them. This cite appears that it can be of some use in the future how ever at this time it has not offer me any solutions, recommendations to solving my problem. you may call me a 754- 422-9566. since at this time I do not have transportation.so in short

I CHECK ALL OF THE AFOREMENTIONED AREAS OF CONCERN, HOW EVER IT STILL IS NOT FUNCTIONING AT ALL. AS I INDICATED THE DRIVERS DOOR LATCH IS NOT SECURING PROPERLY, COULD THIS BE THE PROBLEM? i COMPARED THE POSITION OF THE DRIVERS DOOR LATCH TO THE PASSENGERS DOOR LATCH & THEY DO NOT APPEAR SYNONYMOUS. CAN YOU ADVISE ME HOW TO "RESET" THE DRIVERS DOOR, THEN PERHAPS THAT WILL BE A SOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM... THANK YOU V MUCH
Not so but thank you,
my Mercedes Benz 500 S L (1995) door latch seems to be creating a problem with my convertible top & power windows . A red light indicator switch is blinking red or a steady red. I have been given some solutions but all have failed, I believe it can be the drivers door latch is not properly seated, how do i adjust it so the door will close easy and perhaps will resolve the other problem with the top , window and roll bar
