my Mercedes Benz 500 S L (1995) door latch seems to be creating a problem with my convertible top & power windows . A red light indicator switch is blinking red or a steady red. I have been given some solutions but all have failed, I believe it can be the drivers door latch is not properly seated, how do i adjust it so the door will close easy and perhaps will resolve the other problem with the top , window and roll bar

I can tell you that most often this is a hydraulic pump failure. Are you seeing any signs of fluid leaking? This is one major cause of this problem. On the right rear quarter panel, remove the upholstery cover and you will see the hydraulic metal feed lines. Follow them till they go into the cylinder. Check the cylinder connectors and where the shaft goes into the the top of the piston. Is there any fluid at all in this area.

Also, if you need to get the roof up and the roll bar down, list the rear hatch that the roof rolls up into and you will see a release lever there that you can manually disengage and this will enable you to get the roof up and the roll boar will come down. Sometimes the roll bar will not disengage, do not worry, the roof will not contact this point. The roof will just roll right over the top of it and it will not be harmed.

Let me know if you find any hydraulic fluid on the shaft. Also, if you pull out your spare tire, the hydraulic tank is located under the tire, check the level of fluid. If low, ONLY USE THE RECOMMENDED MERCEDES FLUID FOR YOUR CAR AND FILL TO THE FULL LEVEL ON THE TANK. DO NOT OVERFILL.

    Try resetting your controllers memory.
Disconnect the battery for about an hour. The memory lasts upwards of an
hour without battery power, and I don't
know how long it may last in extreme cases.

If the red light stays on after that, please let me know, and we'll walk
through the next steps. Do yourself the favor of locking all locks
manually if your top is up, or locking the tonneau cover if the top is
down. That way, the controller can start from a position where
everything appears logical if all switches are giving the proper
signals. This is usually the first line of defense before going through a
    battery disconnect to erase memory.

If the top is down, make sure the rear locks are both open. That
way, you avoid giving the controller illogical signals. The rear locks
sometimes get messed up that way when the hard top gets removed
manually. (For the advanced reader: the 90-94 controllers are actually
more forgiving in this respect, because the rear locks have two read-out
switches per rear lock, as opposed to one switch in late model years.
That makes it a bit easier for the early model controller to discern the
    status of the locks.)

Inspect the motor, which operated the top and its connections:--- the motor and fluid reservoir for the electric soft top is located in the trunk of the car. remove the spare tire- hardware, under black plastic cover where spare tire sits- is located. remove the 3 - 10 mm nuts that hold black plastic cover in place and lift cover straight up, the soft top motor and reservoir is located there.
------- If the motor is checked ok and still the soft top, windows and roll bar not working and light is blinking.------ You may need to rsyn the windows. At the motor assembly there should be a black relay, remove the cover to the relay and push relay and see if motor runs the soft top roll bar and window relay-module is located behind passenger seat compartment on the floor. You must re syn windows before soft top will work. I have seen alot of these soft top modules go bad from jump starting dead battery or due to short in wires. First the window needs to roll down then the top will work. But if window is not working at all then , window motor and switch needs to be inspected. If the switch and motor is checked ok by meter. Then its module problem.-------
The roll bar is also controlled by the soft top module.----------
The module needs to be tested and replaced.----------
There is a relay attached to the soft top pump motor in the trunk , many a times that gets faulty and this problem is seen.------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

The control module has set a fault and it will have to be reset. They are sensitive to voltage & must have 12 volts to operate properly.
The windows and top will need to be resync. I cannot find any information regarding the diagnostic procedure for the roof .. it states there is a procedure to diagnose the fault with the number of flashes the switch makes .. a dealer may be your best option on this fault .. I hope this helps some.

Want roll up

will the window move down but not up? try playing with the switch or hold switch in the up position and striking the inside door panel sharply with the side of your fist. if it goes up when you wiggle the switch than it is most likely the switch. if it goes up when you hold the switch and hit the door it will need a regulator. if its not a power window it needs a regulator.

first try with disconnect battery ground cable, disconnect cable an leave 2 minute then fix it back and have a look, if not work now it's position uneven, you must close the roof slowly by hand up to locking position after that first operate the switch for closing and let it lock properly then till lock the boot lid to the right position with two flaps then switch off ignition let it stay 5 minute without doing any thing and, after that open the roof, if not work in this way you must fix Mercedes diagnose tool in to the car for manual activation through diagnose tool, and also would like to ask you to check the boot separation flap again is it in the right position if it not close properly it won't work,

the soft top module is receiving an illogical switch input. try retracting the top untill all the locks are secure. Make sure your roll bar operates o.k.. also only operate this top with the car running and the windows up. If it still won't work I would suggest having the car scanned for codes. You can try disconnecting the negative cable on the battery and secring the top manually and see if reconnecting neg. will clear the memmory.

Top will not close clk 430 mercedes benz

did you recently have a dead battery? Either way try to resynchronize your windows (i'm not sure if you meant front window or rear quarter window). If you hold the window switch in the up position(car running and door closed) untill window reaches the top and continue to hold for 10 seconds the window will reprogram itself. try both front windows. This system is complicated and is best diagnosed via s.d.s. diagnostic machine. I will give you a couple of other possible easy remedies. If your vehicle is equiped with a ski window in the rear trunk panal the door must be shut, also your cargo cover must be shut and plastic lid secured. There are numerous micro switches that input to your soft top control unit-any one could cause the top to be inop. Check to make sure the switch on the cargo cover( retractable cover in trunk) is secured to it's housing, they do periodically fall off. Also if your roll bar ( rear head rests ) has been mechanically deployed You must hold the switch in the up position untill the rams lock back into the roll bar-does the roll bar operate? Always operate top with vehicle running because they are very voltage dependent. Your owners manual will explain how to manually raise top and some simple operation and repair remedies. If you are knowledgable about automotive electrical systems you can disconnect both leads from the battery and touch them together to drain the capacitors and it may reset the module( do not attempt if you are not knowledgable with automotive electricity because there are many things that can go wrong. hopefully I have been helpful.

The window position is monitered by the softop control module. It sounds like the glass is very dirty and drawing too much amperage during window operation. The soft top is electro hydraulic. The roll bar is operated normally with hydraulics but it is mechanically released in an emergency situation. 1st make sure your windows are clean and the express(one touch operation) is working-the soft top will not function properly if the windows are not synchronized. Next be sure your roll bar works-hold swith in up position to lock roll bar rams in if they have been deployed. next put your top all the way up. untill windows roll up and try it with the engine running and trans in nuetral- if it still does not work mechanically secre rear of top with tool provided in your tool kit the owner's manual will tell you how to do this. good luck
