Sounds like the coil or possibly the electronic ignition, replace coil as this is the cheaper option. Check to see if your Kia then starts if it does allow the engine to run until at operational tempreture then shut off the engine allow 5 mins then try to restart if your Kia if it starts again without straining or being boosted via jumper cables problem solved. If by any chance you do replace the coil & your Kia still will not start the electronic ignition is the next step & that can be done yourself as long as you have the required tools & knowledge, if not a trained professional will be able to replace the electronic ignition but this will be very costly if it is the electronic ignition.
Step one: buy new ignition coil
Step two: find bad ignition coil
Step three: replace the coil.
Seriously it is this easy, once you buy the new part you know what to look for in your engine bay. disconnect the old one and reconnect the new one in the same way.
1. Disconnect high-tension code from spark plug.
2. Remove the spark plug.
3. Connect the spark plug to a high tension code.
4. Hold the spark plug with insulated pliers 5~10mm from a ground.
5. Crank the engine and verify that there is a strong blue spark.
If there is no spark, inspect the following points.
Step Inspection Action
1 Check for good connection of ignition coil Yes Go to next stop.
No Repair or replace
2 Check if resistance of high-tension leads are OK Yes Go to next step.
No Replace
3 Check if the ignition coil is electrically charged
1) Ignition switch "ON"
2) Check if the engine coil (+) is electrically charged
Yes Go to next step
No Check the wire harness between ignition switch ignition coil and ECM
4 Check if resistance of ignition coil is OK
Resistance
Primary : 0.36~0.44Ω (at 68°F (20°C))
Secondary : 10.9~13.3kΩ (at 68°F (20°C)) Yes Go to next step
No Replace
5 Check if ECM is OK Yes
No Replace
REMOVAL
Do not attempt any maintenance on spark plug if engine is hot.
1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Carefully remove high-tension leads.
3. Use compressed air to blow any dirt or debris from around spark plug hole.
4. Check that spark plug fits squarely in spark plug socket and remove spark plug.
Raise a vehicle and install SST(OK552 131 001) in order to replace cylinder 2, 4, 6 spark plug.
Check Ignition Coil1.IG KEY : OFF , Engine : OFF2.Disconnect ignition coil connector B-20/ B-21/ B-22.3.Measure the primary coil resistance.- Connect the negative (-) terminal of a 3V power supply to terminal 2 of the power transistor; then check whether there is continuity between terminal 3 and terminal 2 when terminal 1 and the positive (+) terminal are connected and disconnected.
A.
[Specification]
1)
In case of connecting terminal 1 with the positive (+) terminalResistance between terminal 2 and 3: Approx. 0.78Ω±10%(20°C(68°F))
2)
In case of not connecting terminal 1 with the positive (+) terminalResistance between terminal 2 and 3: infinite(∞Ω)4.Measure the secondary coil resistance between the high-voltage terminals of the ignition coil.
A.
[Specification] Approx. 13.0 ± 2.6(kΩ) (20°C(68°F))5.Is the ignition coil normal?YES
1)
Ignition coil is OK.
2)
Possibility of PCM malfunction
3)
Test with a new PCM and check for proper operation. If problem is corrected replace PCM and go to "Verification Vehicle Repair" procedure.NO
