Reading coder on toyota echo

this is a OBD11 system and requires a scanner or code reader to read codes.

are you getting a check engine light if so read the codes and see what it tells you them cars had a lot of problems with the box located under the rear of the car back from the tank just check out that system

Take it to a dealer and let them check it out by plugging it in then checking the mapping of the computer ,i suspect a fault with the ECU but its difficult to tell without the right software .remember this mapping will be encoded to stop people like me reading the faults

if your car was made before 1996 yes you can, but car 96 to todays car you can not.

The check engine light will come on for many different reasons. Could be as simple as a loose gas cap. If that's not the problem, then you need to get the code(s) read. Your car will require an OBD II code reader. In some states, the auto parts stores will retrieve the codes for you. Without a code, there is no way to say what made the light come on for sure.

You must use an OBD2 reader, OBD2 vehicles do not support self-diagnosis. OBD2 vehicles are years 1996-present!! Bring your vehicle to your local autozone, they would read the codes for free!!

It may have been a temporary problem. Mine does this occasionally. Have the codes read by someone with a reader. I have my own. Or: try disconnecting one battery post for a few minutes which should re boot the computer. If the problem was temporary, when you reconnect the battery, the engine light will be out. If it comes on again something needs fixing so get the codes read and find out what it is.

Should not be a Big Deal. Check your Oil and Coolant. Usually these are the Cause of these "Dummy" Lights.
