Need to know what color wires the fuel pump tie into?[black, tan, orange]

Black is ground, and orange is 12 volts, fuel pump only has 2 wires, any others are the sender. Get a test light and test the wires, have someone turn the key to start while you test the wires.

Does anyone have any idea where the fuel pump relay is at on a 1987 GMC Sierra EFI pick up truck and how to know if it's the relay or the fuel pump that's gone bad? Any help will be appreciated!

It's in the engine bay somewhere. Here are the 5 wire colors to it: 1) tan & white, 2) orange, 3) black & white, 4) dark green & white, 5) red.

The surest way to test the fuel pump is to hook up a voltmeter or test light on the pump wire at the fuel tank connector-on the harness side, not the tank side. Then see if the pump wire has power with the engine cranking over. If it has power, but won't make the pump work when connected, then most likely your pump is bad. Turning the key to ON will also make the pump come on for 2 seconds (to prime the system), but it is easy to miss that signal, so check for power with the engine cranking.

Look around in the engine compartment, and up around the firewall on driver's side. Look for a red wire with I think a green connector on it. This wire will not be connected to anything. It is the pump prime, for test purposes. If you put 12 volts battery juice into the connector, it should make your fuel pump come on.

Rodeo fuel pump rewire

Usually on these it is the fuel pump sending unit. But here is how the wires connect. Here is what you need to do about the different wire colors. First disconnect your negative battery. Drop the fuel tank and replace pump. Remember to have a splice kit in hand. Ok now here is how you connect the different colored wires. Black goes with black. Gray goes with black and orange wire. Purple goes wit blue and yellow. And the last wires goes together. I hope this helps.

Should be second from left.
I think the wires are orange black, tan white, black white, and green white. The orange black could be pink black and the tan white could be gray on some models.

Fuel pump wire color

The gray wire goes from the pump relay to the pump. The black white wire is the ground for the pump. The purple is for the gauge on the dash and the black is ground for the sending unit. I don't list a white wire being used.
If the colors on the truck don't match the tank, you'll have to test them to verify each circuit.

K2500 6.2l diesel

Here is what I have from my diagram - -
the wire from the fuel gauge on the dash to the sending unit in the tank is purple. Not the pump.
The wire from the pump to the pump relay is gray.
The wire from the relay to the 10amp fuse is purple.
The wire from the relay to the computer is orange.
The wire from the relay used to power the pump to prime it is red.
And the ground wire for the relay is black-white.

Fuel tank wire harness

My schematic lies to me a lot but here it is: dark blue:goes to gauge, dark green with red stripe is pump power and black is ground.
Hot wire should have 12v, dark blue should have pulsing voltage and black should be absolute ground.
