Fuel level sensor in tank bad????

2000 Chevy Blazer, 4 w/dr, 6 clyr
I'm being told that my fuel level sensor within my gas tank is out. The gas pump is working and the gage on the dash works, just can't tell how much gas is in the tank (been driving it for the past 2 years with no problem except for NOT knowing how much gas is in the tank). When I fill the tank the dash gage will show full and as I use the gas it will move to the 3/4 full line on the gage then stop. The low fuel light will come on when the tank is almost empty. Sometimes the gage needle will bounce back and forth from empty to full. I was told that I will need to replace the pump and sensor within the tank because it is all one unit.
Is this true? What part do I need to get to fix the problem?

Thanks for your help!

Thank you for a quick response.

was thinking about acquiring the part from an auto recycler/dismantler place (with a 2 yr warranty). Where can I acquire the part you suggested (Delco Remy)

Yes it is all one unit, and yes that is what the problem is. don't use aftermarket parts, use OEM, (Delco Remy) they are much better quality.

You may be able to get just the sending unit, but if you are in there I would suggest a new pump if your milage is over 50000. Try Rockauto.com, they carry ACdelco parts.

2000 S-10 Blazer (Location of fuel tank pressure sensor?)

your fuel tank pressure sensor is part of your fuel pump assy and is replaceable without changing the fuel pump. sad news is you still have to drop the gas tank to replace it

I have a 2006 chevy blazer, i can fill up with gas and while i drive my gauge will go to empty.

Hello and welcome. this is caused by a bad fuel level sensor. the fuel level sensor is attached to the fuel pump assembly inside of the fuel tank. this requires the fuel tank to be removed to replace

Sometimes my 2000 chevy blazer will not start. If I hit the gas tank while it is being started it will sometimes start. I am wondering if this is a fuel pump problem or a fuel filter problem. It never...

Usually that is a bad fuel pump. Filter is not on the tank. Test it when it doesn't start, or listen, as when you first turn the key to "run", you should hear the fuel pump cycle.

I have a 2001 chevy blazer and i have replaced the fuel pump to the tank and i was told that their might be a second ful pump that go's to the motor. is that correct? thank you very much.

No second fuel pump, note that it's common for the wire harness from the gas tank to the frame to go bad when manipulated to replace the fuel pump from the gas tank which is only a $15.00 replacement part. The fuel filter should also be replaced shortly after to ensure any dirt that got in the gas tank that the filter will collect will not restrict the flow of fuel to the engine. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to answer any questions you may have.

Gas guage moves back and forth from emty to full with gas in it

it sounds like the level sensor on the sender (fuel pick up pipe in the fuel tank) is getting stuck. the level sensor is a float that is attached to the sender, and you will need to remove the fuel tank to get to it.

hope this helps.

2000 Chevy Blazer Wont Start

The plug on the fuel pumps are common for being bad and burning up the pumps. But the new pump will come with a new plug.
