97 BMW z-3 Drivers seat moves a little when breaking or accelerating. I've taken the seat out expecting to find a allen set screw loose, but couldn't see a fix. Any ideas?

1. move the drivers seat all the way forward 2. from the back seat, locate the clip attached to the right side drivers seat rail. 3. lift the clip up using a screw driver or pliers. The clip is flexible metal and can be removed and replaced without harm.
depends on the make and model of your vehicle. in general (most vehicles) there is an adjustment on the steering box. look for a large nute with an allen head set screw in the middle of it, place an allen head wrench on the adjustment screw to ensure it doesnt move and break the set nut free, turn the adjustment screw down one half of a turn and re tighten the set nut. go test drive you car around the block, repeat as necessary. me sure not to over tight/over adjust your steering box, this will cause your car to handle dangerously ans easily loose control. if this process doesnt cure the issue check for a worn rag join and universal joint on the steering pillar. also check for worn out bushings, pitman arms, drag links, track bars and tie rod ends
Hi,
Does the seat move while driving when you hit a bump?
When you make it move by pushing it, are you moving the WHOLE seat or just the SEAT BACK? Could it be the forward/back lean that's 'loose'?
Also, I'd try moving the seat ALL the way FORWARD and then ALL the way BACK to ensure it's on its rails. When it's @ each extreme, see if one position has more 'play'/movment than another.
Do you share the RAV w/another driver that changes the seat too? It could be gettting worn from constant adjustment (I doubt it, but a thought).
some just unscrew, others have a set screw which is hard to see sometimes, it would be at the bottom of the knob just look around the bottom rim of the actual knob itself, you will see a small hole, inside that hole will be a set screw that you need a little allen wrench to loosen it,, once you've done that , it should come right off ( depending on the knob, there could be up to 3 of the set screws so look carefully)
you need to turn the allen screw to work the front latch release's and that will unlatch the front.also as you turn the allen you will notice the front of the top pull back slightly, after this allen has been turned un-till it stops (this may take a while) you can then start to move the top manually.pull the front of the top back, then lift the rear section, then you will be able to lift the rear lid move top into the stowed area
This is a common BMW problem before giving to a mechanic try looking at the mechanism to see if any bolts are loose or missing, you might find the bracket is broken or torn and needs to be welded or replaced, the job is relatively easy but be carefull because of the SRS system if not sure give it to an expert.
