Unfortunately in your mode maxima nissan had quite a few issues because of beeing the first model of A32 body style from the older J30 model maxima. from what i have seen in the past it could be anything from bad harness, to flodded ECM/computer because of water entering into vehicle because of faulty cowling on top of windshield, to bad ground between trans and engine housing. if the check engine light is on, you need to scan for codes to get started. if no check engine light is on that that makes it alot harder to diagniose. if no check engine light is on, i would look at the top of the computer bracket to see if its rusted up, that coilud be sign of water coming in and flodding computer causing running issues/drivability porblems.

1998 nissan maxima reads EGR flow maintenance on diagnostic and cuts off sometime when i come to a stop or let off the gas?!?!?!?!?!

A good vacuum chamber doesn't mean the egr valve isn't sticking or leaking.

The recorded fault might have nothing at all to do with the periodic stalling. The management system should maintain the idle at the programmed speed by constantly adjusting the idle air flow through the idle air valve or equivalent. Perhaps it is sticking or not responding quickly enough or perhaps it takes too long to establish a stable idle due to other factors such as poor injector spray patterns or a tired oxygen or other sensor...

98 Nissan Maxima Have replaced plugs, mass air flow sensor, cleaned throttle body, adjusted TPS and car still stalls at stop lights, have to put in neutral so it won't die. I can have the vehicle

The EGR Valve is either stopped up with carbon or it is justed worn out.More than likely there's carbon stopping air flow. You can try cleaning it with a non-chlronated brake cleaner and a scraper or wire brush.Reset the computer.

My car dies out constantly..usually when i slow down or come to a stop..i have replaced the alt. The fuel filter and back o2 sensor..i have tried gas treatments..i am stumped as to what the prob could...

I had the same problem with my 95 nissan maxima. The Mass Air Flow Sensor went out. It is located on the left side of the air filter housing and it has a pink sticker on the side of it. Try removing it and cleaning it with some Mass Air Flow solution and if that doesnt work then you might have to replace it for about $250 but most autoparts stores have to order this part and if you dont get it fixed fast enough it will cost you a starter as well.

The car stalls out while driving sometimes, but it will start right back up with problem. Theres no engine light on, or anything else on.

. Check the Mass Air Flow Sensor voltages. Verify good battery voltage to the Mass Air Flow Sensor on the White/Black wire. Verify good grounds for the Mass Air Flow Sensor on the two Black wires - look for 0.05 volts or less to be ok. Check the output voltage from the Mass Air Flow Sensor on the White wire - specification is less than 0.5 volts key on engine off and 1.0 - 1.3 volts at warm idle. The Green/Orange wire at the Mass Air Flow Sensor is not used. The Mass Air Flow Sensor can test good and still be defective.

2. Make sure the timing belt is not off a tooth. Can check ignition timing to see if one bank is on. May need to get into compression on each bank but a timing belt off a tooth or two will idle poorly but can run better at higher RPM.

The car stalls at idle and when stopping.

Sounds to me like an O2 sensor, i had a similar problem with my Ford Probe GT. Luckily my car was a 5 speed so i just kept my foot on the gas a bit and put my car into neutral as i was slowing down or coming to a stop. If you're car is automatic I would not suggest doing neutral drops.. you'll cause more damage.

My nissan maxima stalls

Every answer here is wrong. This has been driving people nuts for 15 years. The problem is the engine wiring harness which has a bend going past the right strut tower, Nissan had a service bulletin on this in September of 1999, Google it, it's in pdf.
