93 celica won't start

I drove the car to school and it worked fine, but when I tried to start it in the afternoon, the engine turned but wouldn't fire. We replaced the distributer cap, checked the vacuum hoses, and we think the fuel filter is fine. Right after we replaced the distributer cap, we got it to start and drive down the street only for it to die and be towed home where we noticed the fuel pump relay was missing (and cost $100). Not sure if that is the problem though. We don't know what else it could be. Any ideas?

The odd thing is that it is posted other vehicles are doing the exact same thing, makes a lay person wonder what's going on. I simply copied and paste the same article privious to mine, exactly the same occurance and symptoms.

We have be in search of this 2 prong fuel pump relay and not found one. Still looking I'll have to accept the answer it has to be there.

  • astror Sep 06, 2008

It isn't the pump it is as indicated the relay under the hood on the drivers side fuse box.
The relay isn't there. Not bad just not there and the person before me said the exact same thing.

Hello astror,

the posting date are a little bit old but anyway, there is no two prong relay if i may inform you.

minimum terminal of a 12v relay are 3. regular 12 v relay has 4 prong. 2 for contact and two for power of the coil.

anyway i just toldl you this because you might miss the relay because you are looking for a two prong relay.

back to your problem of not starting.

car wont start if you dont have fuel and spark.

you can check if you have fuel in the carburetor
then check if you have spark.

then we'll start from there..

tnx 4 using fixya,

If your battery is more than three years check liquid level . measure its voltage to maintain over 12.5 volts. If not replace it.

If the fuel pump is missing, it needs to be there because that part is important. Also check some leaks even small leak can cause the problem.

Check the ignition switch

  • Anonymous Sep 06, 2008

Check all of the battery terminals and cables and check the wires on the starter/selonoid, start from the battery and follow the cable out and check all conections , clean and tighten them and if it still does it the starter/selonoid is bad and needs replacement...

SOURCE: 93 celica won't start

On my 89 gt it would die going down the highway at 75, it ended up being the throttle position switch. As for not starting I'd look into the ignition. Mine went out and Ive bypassed a push-to-start button through the firewall because I don't even want to deal with the steering coloumn.
