For about a week my 2001 galant es v6 would not start right away. After 4 or 5 times it would turn over and stay running after i gave it gas. I went to start it today, it started but didnt want to turn over the engine was shaking i gave it gas but it staled and it wont stay running. Could it be the fuel pump?

YOU NEED A LITTLE TUNE UP.REPLACE FUEL FILTER, REPLACE AIR FILTER,CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS.REPLACE SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES.IF ENGINE STILL SHAKE YOU COULD HAVE FUEL PUMP OR FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR PROBLEMS.
spark plug wires first (cheap) spark plugs, injector connectors (never pressure wash the engine, it gets the injector wires wet and corrodes contacts)spark plug wires first (cheap) spark plugs, injector connectors (never pressure wash the engine, it gets the injector wires wet and corrodes contacts)

That sound you hear, does it sound like it is coming from the back of the car, fuel tank? This is most likely the fuel pump starting up. I would still have your fuel pressure checked, if too low you'll have issues. If fuel pressure is good it most likely has to do with the electronics; does it have spark? Remove a spark plug lead and check while cranking the engine over. Also it is possible the timing belt failed, remove a dust cover off the cam, crank over and be certain it rotates. My gut says you have an electrical issue, such as cam or crank sensor. You'll need to check cseveral items to confirm.
If I may be of further service, please ley me know.
Thanks,
Tom
Be gentle with my rating. I am a long ways away. It sounds like a fan belt. You should pop the hood next time and see how it sounds when you have the squeeling going on. Fan belts will squeel until the get warmed up and then stop because the heat makes them grab the way they are ment too. Let me know, Raz
dont know exsacly where is but should be where gear box meets engine and it sounds like the soliniod is stuck or gone or starter could be stuck in engine if manual put in gear and rock back and forward this may help relase it
if the battery is weak,it does not have the rpm needed for the computer to start the vehicle.
if your immobilizer is kicking in,it will not start.
get the electrical checked out.
do you have spark? How do you know if your timing belt is good? sometimes it doesnt break just shed the teeth which could be missing under the crankshaft. The best way to check is to have two people. have one try to start the car and see if the camshaft is actually spinning. The crankshaft will always turn but if the teeth are gone on timing belt this would cause the belt to stay in one position not moving the camshaft. so if you can remove the upper timing belt cover and do this quick inspection with someone that will tell you for sure. if it does look like it is spinning then by hand turn engine very slowly with plug coil wires removed. and make sure teeth are all there. It couldve jumped timing. (valve timing)
