    Installation

Remove one spark plug from each cylinder.

        If not done:

            Loosen tensioner adjusting bolt.

Using Camshaft Belt Tension Adjusting Tool T74P-6254-A, pry tensioner clockwise against spring tension as far as possible.

Tighten adjusting bolt to hold tensioner in released position.

Align crankshaft so number one piston is at TDC (top dead center) as indicated by timing mark.

Line up camshaft sprocket timing mark with inner timing belt cover timing mark and key is pointing down.

NOTE: On 49-State, and all automatic transmission vehicles, it is not necessary to align auxiliary shaft sprocket.

If vehicle is California Emissions Certified with manual transmission:

Install Synchronizer Positioner T93P-12200-A into synchronizer.

Rotate auxiliary shaft sprocket until the synchronizer shutter is against the stop, and the notch of the tool engages the notch of the synchronizer bowl.

Install timing belt over crankshaft sprocket . Then, proceeding counter-clockwise, over auxiliary shaft sprocket and camshaft sprocket.

Loosen tensioner adjusting bolt allowing tensioner pulley to press against timing belt.

        Remove tool from synchronizer.
NOTE: When performing the following step, do not rotate crankshaft counter-clockwise as timing belt may jump a cog, putting camshaft or auxiliary shaft out of time.

        Rotate crankshaft two revolutions clockwise.

Bring crankshaft slowly, without stopping, to number one cylinder firing position (keyway directly up).

Recheck timing mark alignment. Repeat steps if timing marks are no longer properly aligned.

Rotate tensioner assembly against bolt with torque wrench up to 41-45 Nm (30-33 ft-lb) and tighten adjusting bolt.

Tighten adjusting bolt to 35-45 Nm (26-33 ft-lb).

Tighten spring pivot bolt to 40-55 Nm (30-40 ft-lb).

        Install the crankshaft belt guide.

Install the crankshaft position sensor onto the dowel pin and tighten the two longer bolts to 8-12 Nm (6-9 ft-lb).

Adjust crankshaft position sensor air gap. Refer to Section 03-07B or Section 03-07C.

Install outer timing belt cover as outlined in this section.

        Install spark plugs .

Set timing & ignition timing on 94 ford courier 4 cyl petrol

once you have the timing belt exposed. Match the timing mark of the camshaft pulley to the notch on the engine block (Located at 5 O'clock). The notch on the oil pump is not important but the book wants the notch on the pulley to be at 12 O'clock. The crankshaft sprocket has a timing mark on it as well. Line that up with the notch on the engine block located at 1 O'clock. After the belt is installed and each length is tight between all pulleys and sprocket. Recheck that the timing marks are still correct. Now temporarily install the crankshaft bolt into the crankshaft and SLOWLY and CAREFULLY bar the engine over until it is back where you started (TDC on compression stroke). This engine is a non-interference engine so you won't feel binding but you still want to take it slow. I highly recommend removing the spark plugs first. Forcefully barring the engine through a compression stroke could damage the timing belt. Lastly, as far as the ignition timing goes. There is nothing to adjust. The crankshaft sensor is not adjustable and goes on exactly how you removed it.

Why doesn't My truck start after changing the Timing belt on My 1999 Ford Ranger?

you need to pull the timing back apart pull the number one spark plug and role the motor over by hand to top dead center on the compression stroke the the mark for the crank should be lined up or almost lined up line it up perfect on its mark then set the cam to its mark install belt role over by hand 2to4 full rotation marks should line up perfect . install crank pulley fire it up for a split second shut it off and put it all back together

2004 kia optima fires but wont start

Recheck your timing marks. Sounds like valve timing is off. Check compression it needs a minimum 90 lbs to run. Bet you money the timing belt was put on out of phase.

Timing belt may have slipped. Check valve timing. If good, valves may be damaged. If bad, valves may also be damaged. Fix belt first and recheck compression. If compression still bad, remove head for repair.

We have replaced timming belt but cant get it to start

Double check and make sure you are set to #1 TDC then verify you have the timing marks aligned correctly. This happens a lot when the timing marks slip and the vehicle is 90 to 100 degrees out of time. If it were 180 degrees out it would start but run very rough. If you replaced the timing belt because it broke while the engine was running do a compression check or connect a small compressor to a line you can screw into the the spark plug holes and see if you have any compression or in 2 or more cylinders have no compression. If this test is true your valves are bent and you will have to have the head rebuilt.

Is it possible that when the belt broke you may have damaged the engine (bent valve). Try advancing or retarding the camshaft sprocket by one tooth and see if that makes a difference.

First thing you want to check is if the rotor on the distributor is at the #1 plug wire when the #1 cylinder is at top dead center. This will ensure the timing is set correctly.

The timing belt on my 94 2.3L Ford Ranger broke, I have replaced but don't know how to set tming

The timiing is set by aliging the timing marks on the cam with the timing marks on the crank -- then the belt goes on.
