93 gmc jimmy had the egr vavle taking off and cleaned. The guy told me to run some fuel injection cleaner through it to help cause it was covered in carbon. I put in stp complete fuel system cleaner and now it is running awful. When we took the egr valve off there was oil in it as well and now I noticed black stuff dripping out of the exhaust. What shoulod I do???

Check for a vacuum leak around the EGR Valve . It is possible the EGR valve stuck open after cleaning it and causing an internal leak now.

Possibly a clogged fuel filter or bad plugs/wires.

SOURCE: check engine light

yes you will have to hook it to a scan tool and erase the dtc or the light will stay on. sometimes you can unhook the battery for 30 sec or pull a fuse or turn the key on and off a couple of times

SOURCE: EGR CODE P0401,IF I APLLY VACUUM TO THE EGR VAVLE

The mechanical components of the egr themselves may be fine, but the electrical circuit that moves the egr may be faulty. now if the egr valve uses vaccum to operate, then it may be sticking just enough to throw a code.

SOURCE: Describe hoe to clean a EGR vavle on a 96 Nissan

i wouldnt clean it i would simply replace it. its about 100 dollars at autozone and while you have it off go ahead and clean the metal tube that goes into the housing that the egr valve attches to. its probably clogged up with carbon get a pocket knife and poke at it till it breakes then blow air into it to make sure its clear.

SOURCE: My 93 jimmy has surging

Could be a bad MAP sensor, or perhaps the wiring or vacuum hose connecting to it is faulty.

I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy 4.3, it surges at low speed but when accelerated runs fine. Any idea what the cause might be?

If EGR comes up, take it off and clean it, see if that clears it up, it may be sticking. Would also clean your throttle body, and replace fuel filter.

2000 gmc jimmy 4x4 p0300. Replaced cap, rotor, wires, plugs, map sensor, checked icm. Nothing has helped

Just a thought, pull the dist.cap and make sure the rotor has
no side to side play ,thinking maybe a bad upper bushing in
the dist. Also,if the EGR valve has carbon and soot built up
on the piston it will make it idle really poor ,but run ok.
Might pull the EGR and clean it with intake cleaner.
Hope this helps.

My 95 jimmy is running rough, shaky at idle. I had a guy hook up the scanner and my computer could not hook up. Could not find problem that way. Could it be a sensor?

Common for the EGR valve to get dirty with carbon and causing it to stick open. Start with the simple and clean your EGR valve and throttle body, if the EGR valve is to far gone to be cleaned. Your going to have to replace it,you can use Deep Dreep made by Seafome and would be a good idea also to give your Jimmy a Seafome treatment.
Use two cans and follow the instructions on the can and thins should bring life back to your engine.
Thank you for using fixya, and be safe.

Wath P1406 Code means on a GMC jimmy 1996,

It's an egr valve problem (exhaust gas return) egr position sensor.
Take off the egr valve and turn it over and see if there is carbon build up in the ports, if there is clean it out with a pipe cleaner and a little carbon cleaner, just spray a little into the ports and clean it out. If that doesn't cure the problem, then either the sensor needs replacing, and or the egr valve.

Engine nocking noise

I would have tried new pLugs and wires and using fuel injection cleaner in the regularly. You could also check to see that the Mass Airflow Sensor was not damaged.

My 1995 GMC jimmy 4x4 just stopped running. Had it towed home. mechanic told me it was a fuel pump. just changed fuel pump and sending unit. Tried to start and will not fire. Put some gas in intake and...

Only one question.....was the fuel filter replaced? On a jimmy the filter is usually mounted to the rail up under the passenger door on the drivers side. Sounds like there is some sort of obstruction that is preventing fuel from making it from the fuel tank to the engine. I would have thought that the mechanic would have replaced the fuel filter first thing, so maybe it has already been done. Only you and the mechanic know the answer to that one. Good luck with your problem.

Tune up and clean the throttle plate

Ford is notorius for bad breathing. There EGR system is terrible, it always causes a lot of carbon build up in the throttle plates. The best thing to do, is to take of the throttle body assembly and digg out the carbon thats restricting the air flow. Also, it is a good rule or thumb to clean the throttle plate with carb & throttle cleaner with a tooth brush. Add a bottle of fuel injector cleaner to a full tank of gas. While your doing all this you might as well change the EGR valve. If you follow the air intake pipe from the air filter box, it should lead you to the throttle body assembly. The EGR valve is located on the passenger side by the fire wall underneath the heater hoses and AC lines. Good luck, Ford engineers must have been drinking when they designed their vehicles, they don't make anything easy.

Rough idle and lopes

Those 4.3L's have a Central Port Fuel Injection system with one injector in the middle of the intake under the plenum, they are good for either the fuel pressure regulator or the plastic lines (that are inside the intake that feed the injector) leaking inside and flooding the intake with fuel. The best way to tell is to take the plenum off and thurn the key to prime the fuel pump and watch for leaks.
