My 1997 Honda accord ex,sometimes, after driving it awhile, it acts like it is running out of gas and studders. It only happens when I make a stop or wait for a traffic signal. Once,I accelerate it runs good. It has a 4 cylinder V-Tech engine. Does anyone know what`s wrong ?

If you get rough idling or the tachometer needle does not stay in one place when idling then you may have a dirty or faulty idle air control valve. This is a common cause of the problem you are describing. Other issues could be dirty MAF sensor or loose wires or vacuum hose.

Engine shuts off if gas isnt pumped.

Your problem could have many sources, but I would start by having your fuel pressure checked, especially under load. It sounds very much like your fuel pump is failing. Quite typically fuel pumps will run fine, then not fine, then fine again. Very often they act up while the engine is under load, such as climbing a significant hill, or accelerating suddenly.
Hope this helps you find the problem.

It sounds like you need a complete tune up and have the cooling system fushed and filled as well. It sound like it needs some TLC.

Check the catalytic converter. If the carbon monoxide cant get out, it sometimes will act like this. It plugs up over time.

Has it ever been replaced??

I did mine about 2 months before I got rid of my Civic.

By the way, the exhaust system on most Hondas is the Welded, so you have to pull off the whole line from the back of the motor to the muffler.
