I have a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis. i noticed a little diff fluid coming from the right rear wheel. I changed the wheel seal and axle bearing and put it all back together and filled the rear diff with 80/90 fluid as per the owners manual stated. I did not change the axle or any seals in the rear diff. Since, i have noticed a strange sound in the right rear tire. it sounds like a unbalanced tire jumping as i drive. i checked the tire and it is fine as well as the rear diff fluid. the noise starts around 30mph and continues untill i reach 30 or below mph. the car does not shake at all, just the noise. Any idea's?

First swap to a front tyre to eliminate that issue

new bearing shouldn't be rumbling
to get the bearing square on and home
did you use a press to fit the bearing to the rear axle
or tube method ?

and did the seal kit have this nifty plastic seal fitter so axle didn;t rip the seal surface

Sure, the more the throttle and the longer its open the more gas is being injected so if the spark is not there it will spotter. I think you have nothing to loose with an ignition tune-up. It'll be more economical than taking it to a mechanic and still ending up with the same problem. You should change the fuel filter also it could be clogged and there is'nt enough fuel delivered at these speeds. You can also try a fuel injector cleaning solution the kind you pour in the gas tank. This might work for you.

SOURCE: how to remove rear axle from a 2000 mercury marquis

Open the rear end, and take out keeper that holds the axel in..

if you push on the axel a bit and feel it slide into the rearend, that will show you the keeper at the other end...

Remember to have a catchpan under the rearend when takeing the cover off, as the fluid will drain out, and make sure to replace the fluid, (can't tell you how many get in a hurry and forget that part) Check with Ford to make sure what type fluid it is, (synth mix, full synth, or standard 80/90)

SOURCE: i have a 2001 mercury sable. when the car is

Take a spray bottle and put water in it and with engine running start spraying around the vaccum hoses and manifold intake, even ignition wires and coils...you are looking for vaccum leaks of some kind, or electical leaks. If the engine levels out at any point that you spray, inspect that area for a bad hose or leaking gasket. If it gets worse around the electrical wires, coil, ect, you can replace that componet. You will be able to buy an empty spray bottle at Automotive stores.

hi,

make sure your vacuum advance doesent have a slow leak, attach a spare piece of vac hose to the vac advance mod on the distrributor and s u c k on that hose., it should hold air and not leak make sure you dont have any other vacuum leaks. the vac mod on the tranny could have the same problem. open the jets on the carb a little by turning counterclockwise, you see the engine mellow out. theres two screws up under the front of the carb might need a rebuild, fuel filter could be half clogged. and then re time the engine..

Rear axle leaking at right rear wheel

DO NOT WAIT- MY DEALER SAID I HAD A SMALL LEAK IN SAME PLACE, BUT DIDN'T SAY IT WAS URGENT. SEAL BLEW OUT DRIVING ON FREEWAY, DAMAGED ONE AXLE BEFORE I COULD EXIT. $1200 REPAIR. IT WAS NOT MAKING ANY NOISE TILL IT FAILED. SOUNDED LIKE TIRE THUMPING TO ME. DEALER REPLACED BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE SEALS, RIGHT SIDE BEARING AND RIGHT SIDE AXLE.

Rear-end on 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis starts vibrating at 65 to 75 mph.

I would say you're dealing with either a wheel bearing or rear differential issue. New rear diff fluid may help your problem but at this point I would say you probably will have to replace some or all of the parts in the diff.

Drivers side rear axle is leaking, not brake fluid, has disc brakes, what do i need to do to replace seal?

i will tell you right off this is a job for a qualified mechanic, the axle has to be pulled off first you jack up that wheel dismantle the brakes and rotor and behind the axle hub are four bolts that hold on the axle remove them and axle will come off the rear end cover does not have to come off and the axle fluid also does not have to come out,but now that axle is out you will notice that a wheel bearing is holding the seal in place this is pressed in you can buy these as a set at the dealer but must be removed by a pro. as not to harm axle and it has to be pressed back in

Oil leak by back brake right side coming from axle seal need to replace seal donot no how to remove axle seal

Step 1, DO NOT follow the advice in Soultion #1.
You have to remove the axles to get to the bearing. If it's a C-Clip Dana 35C differential, remove the wheels and brake calipers and the 4 bolts holding the brake backing plate to the axle tube, remove the diff cover, drain the fluid, pull the C-Clip and remove the axle with a slide hammer or with the brake rotor put back on the wheel studs backwards. Dana 35C diffs the wheels bearings will stay in the axel tubes, go to Auto Zone and rent a bearing remover. If its a Dana 35 diff, take the axle to a machine shop and have the bearing pressed off and a new seal installed the have the bearing pressed back on.

Replace the rear wheel bearing

better check a manual, The ones I have done do not have c-clips in the diff. You remove 4 nuts behind the brake backing plate, then use a slide hammer to pull out the axle shafts. Then the bearing retainer must be removed (cut or drill into it, the crack it with a hammer blow from a chisel), it should slide off the axle. Then use a bearing splitter and a press to remove the bearing. To install use a long pipe and press to install the new bearing and retainer. Change the seal while your in there. Hope this helps.

Grinding noise from rear of 1999 Grand Marquis

doubt it very much
the only gears in action are the axle spider ( spur gears ) and they turn very slowly on turns
pinion and crown wheel, noise are growls and whines depending if accelerating or costing and makes no difference if turning or straight ahead That should save you $ $1500.00 for a diff center that costs only $450.00
indicates wheel bearings or brake pads ( linings ) worn out and the callipers rubbing on the rotor ( drum)
I would be checking at the wheels and wheel bearings for the problem
