Engine want turnover

I have a 1997 Isuzu Trooper with 133,000 miles on it and yesterday I smelled something like wires burning looked down and noticed my car was registering hot. When I stopped I checked to make sure it wasn't spraying water or steam and it didn't. I let it sit for about 2 hrs. Checked the radiator for water and it had plenty. I went to start the car and it wants to turn over but don't. My battery is only 3 months old, my starter was replaced last year. I tried getting a reading on the computer but there are "no codes" coming up. What could be wrong - do you think it's a relay switch or the brain? I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks RKK

Im not that sure but you can try checking on the thermostat located at the end of the radiator hose entering the engine. If this gets stuck in the close position it can easily cause this problem. You can just have a mechanic remove it, you don't have to replace it. The thermostat helps in heating your car during start ups especially in winter, othewise you can do without it. MGA

Overheating

Sounds like you may have a blown head gasket, white smoke is usually caused by this, driving it can cause major damage, best to have towed to a shop.

Auto transmission will not shift out of first

The first thing is to check the auto trans fluid level, with the engine idling. If it is low, top it up, but if very dark or burned smelling, renew it altogether.

My 2000 Isuzu Trooper is useing about 1 quart every 300 miles and no leaking or noticable smoke. Any answers?

A "leak down" test will test the cylinder effectiveness, as will a compression test. These will tell you how good the engine is.

Ya sounds like the electric shift solenoid. Problem with electrical. Will not give you a warning. Will go bad in a heartbeat. You can try unhooking plug that gos into the trans and spray electrical cleaner on it. plug back in. Wiggle some wires and maybe find one loose or broken wire or connection and hope for the best. But its probably the tranny with that many miles. Go to Advance Auto Parts they usually scan your car for free for codes. Good luck

My 2000 isuzu trooper seems to use oil a little, I've checked the antifreeze-nothing,spark plugs look fine, and no smoke out the back....I can't figure out were the oil goes... Any ideas I would appreciate...

How much is a little oil? 1 quart(US) in 5000 miles is reasonable oil consumption. If you don't have any major leaks, the oil is going out the exhaust pipe. As the engine wears the piston rings dont seal as well as they used too and the oil gets burned in the combustion process. You didnt mention how many miles you have on the vehicle, An engine with 150,000-175,000 is going to burn a little oil..

Loud clicking from engine

Classic Trooper problem. You can get a lot of quiet(er) troublefree miles out of your Trooper with religious, regular oil changes. Isuzu is now advising the use of Mobil 1 0w30 synthetic motor oil, changed at 5000 mi intervals to quiet the lifter tapping that you're experiencing. If you're a DIYer, you can pick up 5qt jugs of this oil at Walmart for $23-$26. -Or, you can buy the basic oil change and provide your own Mobil 1 0w30 to the tech to keep the costs down.

It'll take 150-300 miles for the noise to settle down after the fresh oil change. Keep a close eye on your oil dipstick. As soon as you're coming close to a quart low, top it back up. The 3.2l motor will start tapping again when the oil level drops or is near the time to change. Forget the advice about the belt tensioner needing to be replaced. That is rarely the source of the noise. I have two Troopers, Christophe. They're the ones that aren't tapping like crazy at the traffic light. Enjoy your Troop. -Geoff

I have 1995 Isuzu trooper 4 by 4 and has 120k miles in it.lately, i have noticed that very late shift specially from 2nd to 3rd. i just had serviced the tranny with the spec specified fluid.any idea please

I had the same problem.

When you had the transmission fluid changed, were you able to change the filter also. If not give it a try? Its possible that the filter is clogged. Did you have a look at the transmission fluid when you drained them? i mean the colour, smell? and if there were metal particles in the fluid. If there were metal particles in the fluid I suggest you overhaul the tanny(thats if you can find someone who can rebuid the tanny) or have it replaced with a surplus tanny.

Excessive Oil consumption, 2001 Isuzu Trooper, V-6, 94,000 miles

600 perquart miles is a piston ring sealing issue, U don't say the miles on the car, but it is rings.
