2002 nissan maxima driver power seat will not incline

Driver power switch will recline all the way down but will not incline back up. No motor sounds when trying to incline. Everything else works. Forward, back, up, and down AND recline but does not incline.....
Took it to 2 local shops and they think it is the motor. $700 for the motor itself.. Have not taken it to the dealer since they will charge $100 to inspect and test the circuit. One of the shops said they can probably get seat from a junk yard and will cost $500 which includes installation. I have called the auto salvage places around town but no one has gray seat. What should I do...

Thanks! Not sure why the 2 local mechanics thought the motor was the problem... Hmm. Should I take it to the dealer or another mechanic?

    Hello All:

I have a similar problem, only the back of the seat will move forward and backward but the bottom of the seat will not move in forward or reverse position. Souunds as if the switch may be the issue or at least I hope it is from a financial prospective (lol).

My car seat (same vehicle) is stuck in the forward position. It will move up/down and recline both ways, but it is stuck in the forward position. I can even hear the switch click but there is no movement. Do you think it is the switch and not the motor since there is movement in the other direction?

I have a 2002 Nissan Maxima SE. The driver's seat was stuck in the forward position. I took the motor and the worm gear off of the bottom of the seat. I disassembled the gear box on the end of the motor and found that at the end of the worm gear there is a PLASTIC gear that was cracked from one end to the other. I can't believe they used PLASTIC. Now what?

Hello all had the same problem with my seat the motor was good but the plastic gear was destroyed. this website sold the gear for 65.00 and the whole seat adjuster was 800.00 from the dealer and 600.00 online. I also talked to this guy personally and he was very helpful and an independent business owner. he can basically make any gear u need. so give him a shot.

Drivers side power seat issue

Power Seats System Description and Operation
Power Seat System Operation
There are 2 options of power seat systems available in full size trucks. The 6 way driver and passenger power seats, and 8 way driver and passenger power seats with driver memory. For the driver memory seat operation refer to Memory Seats Description and Operation . Power seats without memory are completely controlled through the power seat switch. Battery voltage is supplied to the power seat switch through the power seat circuit breaker. While the seat adjuster switches are in an inactive state the switch contacts are closed to the power seat switch ground circuit. When a power seat switch is pressed to an active state the switch contact is closed to the battery voltage supply circuit. Each seat adjuster motor is controlled by the power seat switch through 2 motor control circuits. The seat adjuster motors are bidirectional and the direction of adjuster motor rotation is determined by which of the adjuster motor control circuits is switched to battery voltage while the other remains grounded.

( I'm not good at wiring an running an ohm meter.) well then you need to take it to a qualified repair shop.

Ford 2008 expedition, power drivers seat won't recline, but everything else works.

Power Recliner
The driver seat has an electro-mechanical backrest adjuster. The backrest adjustment switch is located on the side of the seat cushion side shield and is part of the seat control switch. The recliner motor is mounted to the backrest frame. Power recliners and motors are only serviceable by installing a new backrest frame assembly.

2002 nissan maxima driver seat motor works on the right rail, but the left side is dead no sound and want to move on one rail only the right side

There is a cable that goes from the motor mounted on the right side rail that runs to a small gear box on the left rail, more then likely the cable has popped out of either the motor or the gear, it’s flexible and can be popped out fairly easily, even having bottles under your seat can cause this problem..

2002 nissan maxima driver seat won't work all electric is it the motor or need a new seat

Have the switch tested for the seat and also verify the seat has power to the switch before you do any parts replacing. Power seats have more than one electric motor and it very unlikely that all would stop working. Go under the seat and locate the heavy connector that comes out of the rug and connects to the seat, using a 12 volt test light probe the connector and see that at least one of the heavy wires there is "hot", you may need the key on. If you find no power check owners manual for the location of the power seat fuses, they are likely under the hood. Good luck and hope this helped. The six way power seat on my 2005 suburban has an issue. When I turn the motor off and remove the key the motor goes to it's down and back position but continues to run. And it doesn't respond to the...

The first place to start would be to have the dealer or someother qualified repair shop , that has a professional scan tool read DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes in the driver seat module ! The seat adjuster motors are controlled by the driver seat module through the adjuster motor control circuits. In an inactive state both of the motor control circuits are grounded within the driver seat module. In an active state the driver seat module switches the appropriate motor control circuit to battery positive voltage. The direction of the adjuster motor rotation is determined by which of the motor control circuits is switched to battery positive voltage while the other remains grounded. During adjuster motor operation the driver seat module also monitors the current flow through the motor control circuits.

Memory Seat System Components
The memory seat system consists of the following components:
• Power seat switch assembly
• Memory recall switch assembly
• Horizontal adjuster motor
• Front vertical adjuster motor
• Rear vertical adjuster motor
• Recline adjuster motor
• Driver seat module
• Driver door module
• SEAT 30A circuit breaker
Memory Seat System Description
Battery voltage is supplied to the driver seat module through the power seat circuit breaker. The driver seat module supplies the seat adjuster switch assembly with a battery positive reference voltage. While the seat adjuster switches are in an inactive state the switch contacts are closed to the adjuster switch ground circuit. When a seat adjuster switch is pressed to an active state the switch contact is closed to the reference voltage circuit. Battery voltage on a switch signal circuit indicates to the driver seat module the switch status is active. Each seat adjuster motor is controlled by the driver seat module through 2 motor control circuits. While the seat adjuster motors are in an inactive state the motor control circuits are closed to ground circuit contacts within the driver seat module. The driver seat module operates the seat adjuster motors by switching one of a motor's control circuits to battery voltage. The seat adjuster motors are bidirectional and the direction of adjuster motor rotation is determined by which of the adjuster motor control circuits is switched to battery voltage while the other remains grounded.

Memory Set/Recall Operation
The seat adjuster motors are equipped with internal position sensors. The adjuster motor position sensors are monitored by the driver seat module and are used to determine the seat position when storing or recalling memory settings. The horizontal, front vertical, and rear vertical adjuster motors use hall effect type position sensors. The hall effect position sensors are supplied with battery positive reference and ground circuits from the driver seat module. The position sensor signal circuits are supplied battery positive voltage through a resistor them monitored within the driver seat module. During adjuster motor operation the hall effect position sensor provides a single pulse for every revolution of the adjuster motor shaft. The driver seat module counts the pulses from the position sensor signal circuits to determine the adjuster motor positions when storing or recalling memory seat position settings. The recline adjuster motor is equipped with a potentiometer type position sensor. The recline motor position sensor is supplied with it's own 5-volt reference ground circuits from the driver seat module. The recline position sensor signal circuit is referenced from ground within the driver seat module. The signal voltage monitored by the driver seat module ranges from 0.39 - 4.58 volts and is determined by the wiper location on the resistor within the recline motor position sensor. The recline motor position sensor signal circuit voltage level is used by the driver seat module to determine the seat recline position when storing or recalling memory seat position settings.
The memory recall switch assembly on the driver's door provides inputs to the driver door module. Battery voltage is supplied to the memory

The recline on my power seat stopped working

I just bought a 2005 Nissan Altima that had the same problem. The motor was fine. I opened the switch and found that a trace on the small circuit board was cut/missing. I soldered it on the spot and it solved the problem. You can access the switch by carefully prying off the switch buttons, then the plate. There are two screws that must be removed so that you can pull the switch assembly out of the seat.
