When the engine light comes on it can mean one of many problems, take your car to an autoparts store like autozone, oreillys, advance auto parts, sites like this will not charge you to plug in an obd2 scanner, you only see an engine light, but when the scanner is plugged in it will read what ever code or codes your cars computer is showing, and they can give you a print out as to what your car may need. if you go to a shop, they can charge you anywhere from 70 dollars to 500 dollars to diagnose your problem and will probably use a similar scanner. but then will try to discount it off your bill and repairs. the autoparts will give you the opportunity to do the work yourself. the way to save is to fix and learn. good luck!
