no you can't. you have to remove the head. sorry. why do u want to do that. is it smoking blue? if thats the case u will have to do a complete service on the head

Yes, you can, but you need to have a special tool that screws into the spark plug hole, so that you can attach an air hose to it to apply pressure inside the cylinder against the back side of the valves to keep them from falling down into the cylinder. The problem is that if the valve seat is not sealing, such as is commonly the case when a valve is burned, then the tool will not help you and you will have to remove the head anyways. Ford makes special tools for removing the valve guides and to install the seals.

it is more than just the valve seals.the 3.0l engine is notorius for the valve guides slipping down into the valve pocket. there is a fix that involves adding a keeper to prevent them from falling but it requires removing heades and taking them apart. yours may have already have had this done so valve seals may fix it.
yes you can change without removing heads you need to have piston at the very top off stroke if off by a little the piston will be forced down by the air pressure so somehow locking crankshaft from moving would be a good idea.
remove plug from a cyl and fashion or buy a fitting to screw into plug hole that will also hook up to a air hose from a air compressor. the air pressure holds the valve closed then you will meed a valve spring compressor designed for removing the springs with head still installed. can rent them at auto parts stores.remove spring and replace seal. then reassemble and move on to the next
but sometimes the valve opens or piston moves down and the valve falls into the cylinder. you can pull it back up and try again or just take the heads off.
my recomendation is just take the heads off they are fairly easy to remove and instal. then have machine shop cut the grooves in the guides and install keeper clips

this is a dangerous exercise to do it this way if one of the valves fall into the cylinder the head has to come off,best idea take it of & do it properly in the first place......hope this helps....cheers

I have a 2012 suzuki sx4 sport back i need to change the pvc vavle but cnt locate the valv on the intake.

I'm not a great fan of suzuki's. Blue is oil burning. If it does this at start up and goes away shortly, Bad valve seals. If it doesn't go away. Really bad seals and valve guides(head job) or the piston rings are already shot. Has it been run low on oil?

No you can't..
Fitting valve stem seals involves removing the valve springs. This means the valve has to be held in place by a valve spring compressor (bought from almost any spares outlet). The springs are compressed by placing one end of the compressor tool on the valve face and the other end over the spring cap, then squeezing the tool to compress the spring, then removing the split collets that hold the spring in place, removing the spring cap and spring, then eventually you have access to the stem seals.
The head has to be removed to accomplish all this.

I do need a head job done to my motor like my valve seal need work on that it because when around the the in of the summer when I know that a lil smoke comeing out my pipe an two people said u need a valve...

the colder the weather the more steam is produced , especial;y if the humidity is high and the temp is cold
as for the valve stem seals an good accredited professional service center can replace them without removing the head/s
valve stem seals are indicated by smoke on acceleration after idling as it at lights etc

Oil in a cylinder is never good. There are several ways for the oil to get there and different prices to fix it.

Valve stem seals go directly around the valve and keep oil from the valve train from entering the combustion chamber. A worn or cracked seal can let oil run into the wrong place. Depending on how the camshaft and valve lifters are fitted, the valve stem is at the bottom of the camshaft and lifter. The overhead Cam models bury to valve stem deep inside the head.

Good practice would be to replace all seals at same time, but 1 cylinder could be done independently. But you are usually doing 90% of the work to do 1 set of seals. If a V-6 engine do the bad bank completely.

Head gasket, oil circulates through passages. Requires removal of everything above the head so gasket can be changed.

Bad Oil ring on Piston. Requires removal of head, oil pan, possibly motor to access crankshaft.

There are some tests which can help tell the difference between the problems. Some of it is visual so you need some disassembly for that. This is not going to be as simple as changing a waterpump or an Alternator. But the valve stem seals are reasonable and the head gasket is not so bad.

Can not say what labor will cost, but it will be probably 80% of the bill.

yes it can be done, but its better to remove the heads...
, use one of these methods,

you need to get the cylinder on the compression stroke (both valves closed) remove spark plug and make sure the engine will NOT turn over !!
using a compressor and sparkplug adapter fill the cylinder with air which will hold the valves closed and with the springs removed change the seals " maintain the air pressure or the valves will fall into the cylinder !!!!! "

also if the cylinders have poor compression then air will leak and this will not work use method #2

method #2 as above but use string or rope to fill cylinder and keep the valves in place if an air source is not handy.....

No, guides cannot be replaced without removing the head. Normally guide seals can be done. But to do that you need to turn motor so the pistion is at TDC on each cylinder as its done (keeps the valve from dropping in all the way) and a constant supply of air pumped into the cylinder. (keeps the valves up and sealed against the seat while the spring is off)

white smoke a startup is usually an indication of bad valve seals, and the solution is to remove the head and have them replaced-it can be done with special techniques with the head installed, and requires a compressor, remove the retainers, springs and replace the seals.

I'd remove the head and have the valves cleaned up at the same time as the seals replaced, if you have good rings it would be like a new engine.

How do i change the timing belt?

This is a long process. The good news is you can do it without pulling the motor. THe bad news is you need 2 floor jacks and a set of jack stands to do that. You will need to go to Auto Zone and borrow the Chrysler Harmonic Balance pulley puller as that is the only special tool you should need to do the job. I highly recommend you get the Haynes Repair manual on this vehicle for this job. If that belt broke while the motor was running I will tell you know that you will need to have the head repaired because it will have bent every valve in the head assembly. After jacking the vehicle up and supporting both sides with jack stands you need to put a floor jack under the motor near the outside edge passenger side, Remove the tire and disconnect the lower engine support strut from teh motor then the upper support. After disconnecting and removing the belts remove the intake manifold, power steering pump, and supports then lower the engine several inches to gain access to the Harmonic balance bolt. Remove the bolt then use the special tool and insert to remove the Harmonic Balance pulley. Remove the timing belt covers and front plate that attaches to the upper motor mount arm from the motor, it's a tight fit, Remove the Valve cover and follow the proper removal sequence for the head bolts. DO NOT FORGET TO SET THE MOTOR TO #1 TDC BEFORE starting this job. Remove the spark plugs and lift the head off. (I assume you know to remove the wires and disconnect the radiator lines from the motor before starting.) Remove the remains of the old timing belt, realign the harmonic Pulley, place the head on and follow the bolt tightening sequence to torque it down correctly and align the cam pulley so that #1 valves are both closed and the #3 intake valve (the valve on the left) is open and the other valve is closed which should put the Cam Shaft key guide for the pulley at 12 o'clock. Compress the Timing Belt tension pulley with an allen wrench in the small hole and place the timing belt in place, release the tension arm. Put everything back in place reversing the order you disassembled them in and once everything is back it should start right up. I've done this 4 times on this model vehicle. Takes about a day and a half to get everything done if you can get the head back that fast. You really need the Haynes Manual for the Torque sequence and Torque settings for that head. Being Aluminum it breaks and bends very easy with you don't follow the right sequence. You will need a new Head Gasket, Valve cover seal, front seal and Intake Gaskets (There is one for each cylinder) Most of the nuts and bolts are 10mm, 12mm, and 11mm with a few 14 mm. I recommend sockets and 2 of each wrench with both open and box ends. The main bolt on the balance pulley is a 21 mm.
