I have the same issue except it is the Number eight cylndr. I was discoverd on a scanner, and there has been no change in fule type nor is there any fluids leaking

  • toolaidback Oct 30, 2008

2000 S-TYPE 4.0 with no codes but I have a hesitation when mostly sitting at lights. I have changed the plugs but not the coils. As you know the coils are pricy and I'm tired of easter egg hunitng on this thing. 63K miles and no codes showing. After I changed the plugs it seemed to run even worse. I had some oil on one of the plugs when i changed them. Can anyone help me out?

i just bought a 2000 jag s-type with the 4.0 V8 engine. i am having a very similar problem. At stop lights, the car begins to idle rough and the rpm fluctuates. and when i go above 40 mph, it hesitates until about 60 mph but is fine over and under this. other then that it runs strong. i also smell burning oil from time to time. what can i do to fix this? help would be appreciated. thanks

  • lovegillig2 Mar 15, 2009

I too have the same issue that starts to hesitate at 40 mph up to about 55-60. My question is where are the coils located? Jaguar dealer replaced #4 only because it popped on the scanner but no others were changed. Is there a site that goes step by step on doing it yourself? Thanks.

I had the same problem on my 2000 Jaguar S Type 6 cylinder. Finally I changed out all 6 colis (bought them at $250 for 6 on-line). Biggest problem is installing them. The 3 cylinders on the driver's side are easy to do, as they are fitted under the plastic cover. The other 3 cylinders on the passengers side are a problem. You have to remove the exhaust manufold, which is not all that easy. I believe I had to remove about 12 to 14 bolts, many clips and clamps, but finally the car is purring like new again. (PS the exhaust manufold is that big silver / aluminum unit sitting on top of the engine, extending towards the passeger's side of the engine.

The ignition coil pack (coil on plug) is intermittantly breaking down
Replace the coil and it should solve your issue

Have a few questions about the miss. The more information you can provide, the better. When did the misfire start? Has there been any changes in the way you drive the car or is the car new to you? Did you have a code read or see a misfire count on a scan tool. If so, what was the code or codes and misfire value? How many miles are on the car. Did you change grades of gas. When was the last service preformed. Any abnormal smells, fluid leaking anything that sicks out of the normal when and if you looked around underneath the hood.

Jaguar s type 2.5 misfire on all 6 cylinders

A random miss ( code 300 ) means the cylinders are not producing normal power, but may not yet be a dead miss.
Sounds like a fuel problem, which may also be connected to the O2 sensor problem.

Number 3 and 4 are not firing from coil on 2002 subaru outback 2.5

its faulty coil.

Get the compression test done on each coil.these will let you know if its faulty coil or not.

=========

It can be issue with spark plugs or faulty spark plugs. Also get the compression test done for cylinders. If any of cylinder shows low compression then required, then that particular cylinder will cause misfire.

Also get obd codes scanned, the error code will let you know which cylinder is misfiring or all cylinders are misfiring.

Had codes run on my 2001 Jaguar s-type 4.0. Was told it said misfire in cylinder 6. Where is cylinder 6 loacted in the firing line?

  • Below is the firing order. As you look at the engine from the front #6 is on the right side second cylinder from the front.

  • This is a coil on plug set up. That means the wires wont just pull up like some engines. There will be a bolt (probably 8mm or 10mm) that will need to be removed then the coil can be removed up and out. At this point the spark plug will be removable with a deep socket and a ratchet.

  • The misfire could be the plug, coil wire or a crack in the coils.
  • Some things to try is replacing that plug and clear the code and see if it returns.
  • Swap coil wires and see if the code follows the placing of the coil wire that was on # 6.
  • Swap the coil packs and see if the code switches to the other side of the engine.
