Question about 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

1 Answer

Maybe once a week or even two weeks, when I come to a complete stop at a stop light the engnie dies. Starts back up no problem and runs great the rest of the day. No DTC's ever come up. Always runs good, it just stalls every once in a while. My wife drives the car most of the time with my son riding in the car seat. I dont like the car stalling out on them. I'm leaning towards changing the MAP sensor. What do you think? Its a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer 4x4 with 4.2l I-6.

I would think maybe the crankshaft sensor but you have no DTC's.So i would check the fuel pressure it could be a weak pump.

Having multiple intermittent problems

I guess the overall answer is yes it could be the ECM.
Code 16 is high or low system battery voltage.
Code 21 and 22 are both for the throttle position sensor.
And code 43 is for the electronic spark control which controls engine spark timing.
The ECM grounds various relays to make things happen such as turning on the cooling fan. So a faulty ECM could cause all of the symptoms. But so could a wiring problem in one of the harnesses.
Especially a ground problem somewhere.
If the alternator suddenly starts overcharging the system the ECM can shut down the car to protect the circuits. Unusual, but possible.
This info may not help much, but somebody is going to have to test the circuits when the engine dies or when the symptoms happen.

I have a 94 gmc Sierra that has been stalling at idle about once a week for the past three weeks when stopped at a light. Turn it over and it starts and dies four or five times and then starts and runs...

check fuel filter remove and shake it and dump out contents on clean sidewalk to see debris thats been going threw it. other test would be fuel pressure . and common fails are fuel pump or crank sensor, try going to your local auto parts store like O reilly they usually have the best code scanners and it's free

Hi, 1997 monte carlo that idles, but cuts out when put in gear, or at times while driving. 3.1 engine. 184,000 mi.

I don't have an answer for you, but I do have a similar or maybe even the same issue with mine. It usually starts up fine, and idles and runs fine when first started, however a few blocks or a few miles down the road it starts to cut out on me, sometimes dying completely... throwing it into neutral and pumping the gas usually will keep it running. This has gone on for a couple of months. When it does die, It normally will restart after sitting for a few minutes. Then a couple of weeks ago it died on me (normally this happens when slowing down and coming to a stop,) and would not restart even after a 1/2 hr, I had to have it towed. I periodically attempted to start it for over a week, it would turn over, but nothing more...then someone suggested that I disconnect the auto start box...It started right up. However, it still continues to cut out when slowing or stopping unless thrown into neutral and pumping the gas. It seems to run better on the open highway, than it does in town with all the slower speed and stop n go. I bought this car used about 6 mos. ago, and considering it's age and the 135K miles on it, I don't want to put any more money into it. I just read there is a recall on this vehicle for the fuel pump and additionally the fuel assembly, I'm not sure if this would be the answer to the whole problem or not.
