Air bag and ABS lights in the dash come on intermittingly. Once they come on, they stay on until the engine is turned off. We may drive a week without them coming on, then bam here they are again. Both come on at the same time and neither comes on individually. There is no pattern as to when they come on. Dash malfunction????????? Help appreciated.

I think your BCM which is the body control module has failed, have a self test run on it to see if it will give any codes, if it won't test then it is the problem.

They are an encapsulated device attached to the brake backplate so cleaning is via a pressure washer.
You could take an ohms meter and check the continuity of the opposite one and use that as a reference against the first
A lot of garages will just us the method of swop it out with a new one.
SOURCE: I have a 2001 Lincoln Towncar. The air bag light comes on
1st when the airbag light is on the system is disabled, so if u have an accident they will not work, as to the common cause read below.
When the airbag light is on it means a fault has occurred in the system and the airbag diagnostic monitor has disabled the system, the most common problem that turns the light on is a break in the connection to the steering wheel mounted airbag, this is due to a rotating ribbon contact that breaks under the steering wheel that connects the airbag to the wiring harness and the diagnostic monitor, the part is called th clock spring contact, a coiled up ribbon electrical contact that turns with the wheel

Whenever
this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating
that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of
lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected
a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM,
SRS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must
now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and
"scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the
problem(s)

I have 1996 Z71 with same problems...all intermittant. Someone suggests ground wire from EBCM to frame needs cleaning and re-undercoated since it is located under vehicle on drivers side frame rail. Also make sure ground wire on battery is clean and tight. I burned up a transmission at 60 k due to bad ground wire on computer to frame. There is TSB on this on but they would not fixit under warranty. Too bad Chevy is is struggling now...I really feel like helping them as they helped me with their poorly designed ground wire that cost me $ 1600 to rebuild my transmission. Fall on your arrogant sword for me.
