They are right, I suppose if someone wanted to badly enough they could probably do it but it would be easier to put a hole in the tank and drain it out. I wouldn't worry about the cap.

I have a eng. light on it had the fuel cap of I replaced the cap with a new on filled it up with gas it is still on it is a 1997 chev. cavaleir

Did you reset the computer to the car. I would say go to an auto parts store as most offer free diagnosis to be sure the cause was the fuel cap. They will also reset it for you. Good Luck

Orange wrench light on my 01 Cavalier

It means you need to have your car scanned for A DTC code to service your engine soon. Auto Zone can scan your car free of charge for the DTC codes and can give you the instructions to what needs to be addressed that your car has issues with.
It cold be as simple as a bad gas cap or a bad O2 sensor, without the DTC codes we will not know what issues your car has that needs to be addressed.
Thank you for using fixya and be asfe.

The 1996 Chev Cavalier runs great. Then I stop,

It sounds like the fuel pressure regulator has gone bad and needs to be replaced. Start with that if your engine is flooding over with gas as you ****. If there is an Auto Zone around you area, have them scan the car for any DTC codes that may be related to your car not starting like a bad MAP sensor which would also cause a no start when the engine is hot. Auto Zone also carries the parts you will need to replace and can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the parts with common tools. If your good with tool both job should take about 30 min to replace. Good luck and keep me posted

I have a 1996 chevy cavalier and it cuts out and once in awhile it smokes black smoke and seems to be using a lot of gas. The fuel pump is new and new spark plugs wires and oil change two days ago was...

It sounds like your car is running rich, which means it's running with to much gas to run the engine. If there an Auto Zone in your area, have then scan the car for any codes which should explain why the car is running rich. Auto Zone scan free of charge and hope there is a code in the history that can explain why it's running rich. The most common cause is a faulty O2 sensor or a dirty MAF sensor which can be cleaned with MAF cleaner that you can buy at Auto Zone and i am sure the guys there can help you determine the cause better then i can since i not there. Please keep me posted, be glad to help you get your car running 100% again soon and save you some money. Good luck friend. Oh and the other thing to look out for too is have the guy's at Auto Zone locate your fuel pressure regulator and check to see that the vacuum tube has not fallen off or that there is no cracks in the vacuum line. Have them also check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve and bat an eye, it always works for the girl on me LOL. Good luck once again.

2002 Cavalier error code 440 and 452 What do they mean?

This indicates that a part of the Evap control system  is no longer functioning correctly. The Evap system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the Gas Cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a cars fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.
A code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
The gas cap is not installed or working properly
The purge solenoid has failed
The canister is plugged and not working properly
TRY this first: Remove and reinstall the gas cap or replace, clear the code, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
Inspect the Evap system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
Check and/or replace the sensor
Check and/or replace the purge valve

P0452 Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor Low Input

Good luck and hope this helps. Recap star with the simple and replace the gas cap with a dealer OEM not a after market. If that does not fix it then change the sensor as indicated with the P0452 code. You can get the sensor from Auto Zone and they can give yo the step by step instruction to get the job done. Good luck and keep me posted.
