How do you reset car alarm? put battery in, now alarm goes off and not stop. 2000 mitsubishi montero sport

Instructions for resetting the anti-theft system. The negative cable is always the one to disconnect first and reconnect last. You could also just phone for a mobile vehicle alarm installer / locksmith, or a mobile auto electrician.

Disconnect the battery to stop the alarm. You should be able to double press the door unlock button to stop it though, unless that is what you mean by 'doesn't match'.

Call out a mobile locksmith with a scan tool to set it up and code the radio.

You need to determine if it's the horn or the alarm. My Montero (not Sport) had 3 horns. All 3 of which go off w/ the Alarm, but only one is connected to the horn on the steering wheel. I could not make mine go off w/o pulling the relay under the hood.

My spring was bad in the steering wheel. I was able to bypass the wire using instructions that I actually found on a Mitsubishi Forum. Link below:

Does it have an anti theft alarm system ? Sounds like it is tripping.

disconnect the battery...wait 30 mins and the pcm should reset.

Disconnect negative and positive battery cables .disconnect negative and wrap it in a rag so it touches nothing... Do the same with positive cable...Count to 10 re-connect cables ..positive first...This will re-set and clear all codes....If alarm still malfunctions it has a failure in its own system.....Brooks

The better solution is to fix the hatch so it closes tightly. The latch hooks on to an adjustable loop. The hatch closes on to the rubber seal: if this is damaged, fix or replace. There may be some adjustable rubber bump stops as well. Lastly, check that the door ajar sensor is not loose.

Is the alarm causing the horn to honk? If so, you need to figure out what is causing the alarm to trigger, which could be any number of things.
Or, the panic module could be failing.
It is least likely to be the horn ring unless the only way you can get the horn to stop is by "beating the horn button on the steering wheel".

If it is, then you can replace the parts for the horn button, but you will need to get an assembly manual for the vehicle. Be sure to disconnect the battery before attempting to remove the airbag module. If it goes off, then you risk injury, and, they are not cheap to replace.

You can tell iff the battery is low by useing ur Key to look it.This will only activate the central looking and imobilizer.If you use your fob and the indicator lights on your car dont flash then your battery needs to be changed.
