It's supposed to keep cranking until ignition is acheived that the starter convienience package, its normal operation. If the battery voltage is low then it will only crank when the key switch is completly folded over.So check battery condition under a load with a load tester if batt checks out then look towards the alternater.

SOURCE: 96 bmw 740il misfire

This is a pretty common problem. I would change your valve cover gaskets. They run around ~ 50 bucks. If they are bad it will leak oil into spark plug well and cause a misfire. Very known on the 740.. Also if tune was not anytime not too long ago id change spark plugs while you at it. Then clear the computer and if you still get misfire on 8 try changing the ignition coil which is right about the cylinder with cylinder ignition coil 5. clear the computer. if you get random misfire and misfire cyclinder 5 after then its your ignition coil. parts store runs around 100 bucks

SOURCE: 2001 bmw 740il output speed sensor location

hello ryk786, i/m not a hundred percent certain, but I think the output speed sensor is located at the back of the transmission. With the pan removed, if you look at the valve body and see the EDS valves and connectors, look about 2 inches back toward the end of the case and you should see a connector by itself. There should be a retaining torx bolt and spring holding the sensor in place. After installing the new sensor, do not over-tightend the bolt. The torque should be around 5-6 Nm.

SOURCE: 2001 BMW 740iL is sputtering when I accelarate and shaky when idl

A tune-up and throttle body clean-up is a good idea, but mind you on those cars, the valve covers usually leak into the spark plugs and coils, causing the car to misfire. If you are replacing the plugs and find them soaked in oil; replace your valve cover gaskets or you will be back to the same problem soon after the oil soaks the new plugs back up again.

SOURCE: I need to change the oil on my 94 BMW 740IL.

Depends how competent you are here and what sort of tools you have. You will also need to replace oil filter if you wish to replace oil within the engine. The oil has to be drained from underneath the engine and allow it to sit for few hours while draining as this will ensure all the deposits at the bottom comes off.

My 2009 bmw 328i with 74.000 have the code p1774,

Why would you change the crankshaft position sensor on a code for the brakes/transmission?

P1774 code description Low Coast Brake Solenoid Valve is turned "ON" or "OFF" by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the Park & Neutral Position (PNP) Switch, Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), and Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor (Throttle Position Sensor). Gears will then be shifted to the optimum position. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will set when the Low Coast Brake Solenoid Valve does not respond from the TCM signal.

I have these codes reading now po700 po335 and po727 any idea what to check first on 03 kia sorento. my car lost power then shut off, then wouldn't start

p0335 is a crank shaft sensor error. This sensor is what tells the ECM when to send spark to plugs. That is why it wont start.

Will not crank

Tps has nothing to do with sparks. If you had sparks going to the distrubuter but none coming out, the cap or rotor is not installed correctly.

1993 jeep grand c wont start help.Car was running fine, then just died. Engine turns over but there is no spark going to the distributor. We have changed distributor, checked coils and spark plugs....what...

I think the Crank Shaft Position Sensor is bad. It will be where the transmission and engine meet together. Some vehicles are at the front, but I've changed out plenty on jeeps. The part is around $50 but it's something that takes about 5min for me to change but very easy for you to do also. It's a sensr that "knows what position your crank is in, in order for the engine to fire, the sensor read from the crank. I would try this first. Good Luck

94 accord v-tec cranks but wont start

Ok, I had this issue with my BMW. DROVE ME NUTS! I couldn't figure it out, and I bought new plugs, coils, etc to no avail.

Finally I replaced the TPS (throttle position sensor) and the CPS (crank/cam-shaft position sensors) and it started right up like a champ! I guess these go out quite frequently, and the dealer loves to charge a fortune to replace them, even though you can get them on ebay for around 40 bucks each.

Hope this helps! Good luck! :)

I have a 1993 bmw 325i and a need to change a crank position sensor and i just want to know How do you replace the crank sensor on a BMW?

Hi the crank shaft sensor is located just above the front pulley at the front of the engine and is held in place be a 5mm hex bolt, undo this and remove the sensor then you will need to follow the wire that dissapears under the intake manifold and unplug the multiplug, replacement is the reverse, regards mark
