Question about Volkswagen Beetle

1 Answer

I have a 1999 VW Beetle. It won't start or turn over. We found a 15 amp blown fuse and have replaced it. It will then start up but then I had to replace it and the whole cycle starts over. Any advice on what is causing it to blow? Now, a day later, it won't work when the fuse is replaced... I am just trying to get it started to get it a VW shop but would appreciate any advice you can offer.

unfortunately.... we have no diagram of the fuse box! Ugh! We have the owners manual that tells us to look on the panel (which the diagram has been removed) and the Chilton's book that says the same thing. So I have looked all over the internet for a diagram of the fuse box with no luck. When I count them out, it is number 27. The next one over is also a 15 amp which I guess could be 28. We counted from top to left-right. Thank you Barry for responding, I appreciate it.

If the fuse you have replaced is number 28 15amp,this is fuel pump fuse
Check/replace fuel pump relay number 4 in under dash relay box

Vw super beetle won't start after sitting for a few days. After I arc the solenoid, it will work.

If you put battery voltage to the starter solenoid &
it works & the starter works, then the solenoid control
circuit has issues

Fuse,ignition switch,neutral safety switch,clutch sw
& such, depending on what the car has

You could try switching relays but doubt that is an issue

Old new beetle VW harness has contact resistance problems(vibration of wires) and needs to be recrimped the long wires(vibration can be stopped by silicone rubber anchoring). Cold weather make battery voltages low and needs recharged with handbrake on(headlamps off) 10 minutes warming engine up the whole winter.

Did you check the coolant level? if your low on coolant the sensor for the fans won't work, also could be a bad fan motor or just a fuse, if you continue to over heat the car you can do a lot of damage to the engine, blown head gasket, and the VW's are expensive to repair, take it to a good shop and have them check it out.
