Engine identification number 3789404 and 3764478. both GM blocks. getting major run-a-round on silly sites

engine number, then go on to an engine identification site and it will tell you what engine it is.

which engine there are 3 to 4 opted
nobody can guess whats under your hood.
are you working on it not knowing what i there.
for sure doing major work book free. no FSM.
why do that, working blind.
there many critical steps to engine assembly.
not trivial.

if you google using real names of engines, facts can be learned.
and some rumors dead wrong.... that is why the FSM works best.

Best bet is to call your local GM dealer. He will need your Vehicle Identification number.
I've never heard of this failure on any of the GM recalls but it is worth a try....

You will have to find the casting number on the block, heads, and intake to see if all those are original to that motor, but the block casting number will tell you what year it was made, and the types of vehicles it was used in. It might be difficult to pinpoint exactly what it was in originally if they used it in more than one type car, or produced it more that one year. You can google up a site that will help you find the block casting and decode it for you. Just type in GM engine block decoder

not sure for holden in australia but here in the states a new gm short block will be stamped and we have to keep track of the new number at the dealer when its changed

In one word NO! The number on the block mean very little as far as the year! But GM is one of the better when it comes to swapping parts! Never heard of this before! Sure like to know what parts are not fitting?? Frankster016
