Speed meter idles

this sounds like an ignition problem. change the spark plugs the flashing check engine light is for misfires and the most common cause is worn spark plugs. this can also be caused by old spark plug wires or a bad ignitor. now if your speedometer is not working that is electronic on this model. get the wiring inspected starting at the transmission end. if the wiring is good then replace the speed sensor

there are a couple of possible causes. I have found many older subaru's end up with poor ground connections for the fuel pump. Have the shop that changed the pump test the connection at the sending unit which is located behind the back seat under an access cover. if the connections are good then check the fuel pressure regulator. it uses rubber seals and they fail with age. lastly if the above items are good i suspect the fuel filter might need changing.

There is a drain plug on the transmission pan for draining, I would check the transmission mounts, they may be broken, a good way to do this is stick a crowbar between the transmission and cross frame and pull down raising the rear of the transmission, if they are broken you will see them separate.
