BUT WILL NOT START AND RUN AND STAY RUNNING IS THE IMMO LAMP OFF IN THE DASH ? called PASSLOCK KEY. car ICON/with/padlock on it. Reads wrong, then use 2nd good key immo means engine immobilizer. and cuts fuel dead. IF CRANKS OK,AND FAST. THEN IF immo LAMP DOES NOT glow WRONG. ADD 5% RIGHT FOOT THROTTLE. and crank now. some cars start and stall in 10 seconds and Passkey lamp tells you it did that on purpose. gas pedal 5% (a tad) THIS ADDS AIR so CAr start, AND HIDE FOR NOW A DEAD IAC VALVE. KEEP RIGHT FOOT MOVING IF IT STARTS. if still a dead engine, check all fuses and scan the OBD2 port under dash. for errors. check for spark check for fueling. this car has 3 engines day1 choice

Saturn ion randomly shuts off

Experiencing random stalling issues with your 2006 Saturn Ion can be frustrating. There could be several potential causes for this problem, and it would be best to have a qualified mechanic perform a thorough diagnosis. However, here are a few common issues to consider: 1. Faulty Ignition Switch: A faulty ignition switch can cause intermittent loss of power and result in the engine shutting off unexpectedly. If the switch is worn or damaged, it may disrupt the electrical connection to the engine, causing the stalling. Consider having the ignition switch inspected and potentially replaced if necessary. 2. Fuel Delivery Issues: Insufficient fuel supply or a malfunctioning fuel pump can lead to engine stalling. Check for fuel-related problems such as a clogged fuel filter, a failing fuel pump, or issues with the fuel injectors. A mechanic can perform fuel pressure tests to assess the fuel delivery system. 3. Electrical System Problems: Issues with the electrical system, such as loose or corroded connections, can disrupt the power supply to critical engine components, resulting in engine stalling. Have the battery, alternator, wiring, and connections inspected for any signs of damage or poor connectivity. 4.Engine Control Module (ECM) Malfunction: The interruption of power to the computer, as indicated by the check engine light, could suggest a problem with the ECM itself. It may be necessary to have the ECM thoroughly inspected or potentially reprogrammed or replaced. 5. Sensor Malfunctions: Faulty sensors, such as the crankshaft position sensor or the camshaft position sensor, can cause intermittent engine shutdown. These sensors provide crucial information to the ECM for proper engine operation. If any of these sensors fail or send incorrect signals, it can lead to stalling or engine shutdown. It's important to have a qualified mechanic perform a diagnostic scan and conduct further testing to pinpoint the exact cause of the stalling issue. They can use specialized equipment to monitor various systems, retrieve error codes, and identify any underlying problems. This will help in accurately diagnosing and resolving the issue with your Saturn Ion.

I need a wiring diagram for the ignition circuit of a 1999 saturn sl

THE CARS VIN 8TH DIGIT TELL WHAT ENGINE IS THERE, so which one is it.? check all fuses first, as in all (cab and bay boxes) and battery must be charged and good first. and kept charged for this service and testing. no spark on just one cylinder or all ,(no engine told of 2)??????? the service manual covers all that. so starter does crank the engine fast?and robustly? not slow as slug. 1.9 L, SOHC, SINGLE CAM 1.9l DOHC TWIN CAM ENGINE 2.0l 3.0L ? V6? THEY ARE not THE SAME AT ALL , FOR EFI OR SPARK BUT Both engines run a pair of twin coil packs rule1: the 2 HV lugs on each pack both must be wired to the correct spark plug !!! or firing order is noW dead wrong and fails. called wasted spark. rule2 2nd rules is it those old 24 year old wires sets (junk) if one fails open, that makes 2 spark plugs go dead and bingo it will never start as 2 cylinder engine ever. never ever run 24 year wire sets, of fail you will !!! go NGK mag-wire sets in fact. best. rule 3: wasted spark to test spark never pull 2 HV wires on one coil pack . test HV wires 1 by 1 using clean new test spark plug. yes 2 can be tested at the same time but lets skip how now, do thme 1 at a time spark tests. do not skip any. scan the PCM yet for DTC errors, be big shame to miss out ,omg the PCM sees CMP or CKP dead. cam or crank sensors errors or coil pack errors. Id have new spark wires installed this old. 24 years. and now rule #4 wasted spark do not pull off all wires to it replacing the pack do so 1 wire off old pack on back on to the same exact lug. on new pack or , firing order is lost. for the 1.9L (wild guessing me the engine) if you get it all messes up the cure is here 4 and 1 fire same time 2 and 3 fire same time, paired. 19-undefined-undefined-0.jpg

2004 Saturn Vue V6 high RPMs in drive & while shifting?

Our Pro Technician Jeff Armer provides a great answer to solve this question
  • Jeff Armer Apr 21, 2023Manual or automatic transmission? AWD or FWD? Is the check engine light on ? Did you have the vehicle scanned for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes? That vehicle has A PCM - powertrain control module , meaning the engine an transmission control are in one module. That vehicle also has Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) System , the computer controls the idle . Was the battery recently disconnected? If it was, this will cause higher idle speeds till the computer relearns correct idle set points. Rough, Unstable, or Incorrect Idle and Stalling Sensor Checks • Inspect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. A fixed or inaccurate ECT sensor reading can cause the engine idle to surge or race. Using the scan tool, compare the ECT with the ambient air temperature on a cold engine. If the engine coolant is 5°C (9°F) more than or 5°C (9°F) less than the ambient air temperature, inspect the resistance of the coolant sensor. Refer to Temperature Versus Resistance - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor . If the ECT is significantly less than the ambient air temperature, inspect the coolant sensor electrical circuit for high resistance. • Inspect the throttle actuator control (TAC) system for correct operation. https://easyautodiagnostics.com/gm/4.8L-...
  • Jeff Armer Apr 21, 2023 Idle Learn Install a scan tool. Diagnose and repair any DTCs before proceeding with this procedure. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List for the applicable DTC that set. Ensure that all electrical loads and accessories are OFF. Turn OFF the air conditioning. Ensure that the vehicle is in PARK or NEUTRAL. Turn ON the ignition. Clear the DTC information with the scan tool. Wait 5 seconds and start the engine. Operate the engine with no load at 3,000 RPM until the ECT reaches 90°C (194°F). Important: If the engine cooling fan turns ON during the idle portion of this procedure, do not include the fan run time in the total idle time. Let the engine idle with the THROTTLE CLOSED and the engine cooling fan OFF, for a total of 5 minutes. The PCM has a new learned idle position. The idle learn procedure is required when the following service procedures have been performed: • The throttle body assembly is replaced • The throttle valve is cleaned--Deposits can build up in the throttle body requiring periodic cleaning of the throttle valve and throttle bore area. Refer to Throttle Body Inspection and Cleaning . • The Clear DTCs function has been performed • The PCM has been programmed. • The PCM is replaced

Turns over but wont fire 99 Saturn SL

If your 1999 Saturn SL turns over but won't start, there could be a few different reasons why. Here are some possible causes:

Faulty fuel pump: The fuel pump is responsible for delivering fuel from the tank to the engine. If it's not working properly, the engine won't receive enough fuel to start. You can check if the fuel pump is working by turning the key to the "on" position and listening for a humming sound coming from the fuel tank. If you don't hear anything, the fuel pump may be faulty.

Dead battery: If the battery is dead, the engine won't have enough power to start. You can try jump-starting the car to see if that helps.

Ignition system problems: If the ignition system isn't working properly, the engine won't start. This could be caused by a faulty ignition coil, distributor, or spark plugs.

Clogged fuel filter: If the fuel filter is clogged, fuel won't be able to flow properly to the engine. This can cause the engine to stall or not start at all.

Bad crankshaft position sensor: The crankshaft position sensor tells the engine control module (ECM) when to fire the spark plugs. If it's not working properly, the engine won't start.

These are just a few possible causes of a Saturn SL that turns over but won't start. It's best to have a qualified mechanic diagnose the problem to ensure that it's fixed correctly.

2008 Saturn Aura won't crank.. new battery, new starter, ignition relay is good.. I'm thinking maybe ignition switch???

I'm thinking maybe ignition switch??? There you go thinking ??? Thinking an not knowing how to test . You probably should have a qualified repair shop check it. Looks like you just know how to replace parts to no avail. Do you know what happens when you turn the key to start ? Circuit Description When the ignition switch is turned to the Start position, the body control module (BCM) receives battery voltage on the ignition 1 voltage circuit, and less than 5 volts on the off/run/crank voltage circuit. The BCM supplies voltage to energize the RUN/CRANK Relay 32. The BCM sends a high speed GMLAN serial data message to the engine control module (ECM) that the key is in the start position. The ECM receives the message from the BCM, and also receives a serial data message from the transmission control module (TCM) containing the shift lever position. If the shift lever is in Park or Neutral when ignition switch is turned to Start, the ECM supplies voltage to the START Relay 31. The START relay supplies voltage to the S terminal of the starter solenoid, through the 30 A STRTR Fuse 26, in order to crank the engine. This vehicle's body control module (BCM) has a bussed electrical center integrated into the housing. Body control relays and fuses are installed directly on the BCM, which simplifies wiring and junction blocks on the vehicle. The body control system consists of the BCM and its associated controls. Battery positive voltage is provided to the BCM from IBCM BATT 1 fuse and the IBCM BATT 2 fuse in the underhood fuse block. The module grounds are wired to ground G201, G203 and G305. The BCM is wired to the GMLAN High speed serial data buss, and the GMLAN Low speed serial data buss, as well as discrete input and output terminals to control the functions of the vehicle's body . Power Mode Master This vehicles body control module (BCM) functions as the power mode master (PMM). Refer to Power Mode Description and Operation for a complete description of power mode functions. Hooking up a professional grade scan tool an checking for codes in all the modules on the vehicle ,viewing ignition switch inputs to the BCM is how a professional tech would go about finding the problem .Not guessing an just replacing parts .
