Tip & How-To about Chevrolet Tahoe

Cheap key to unlock vehicle

Do you have a vehicle that has one of those expensive micro chips embedded in the key? And because of that expense you have not purchased a spare in case of lock outs, well this cheap trick may save you some money. Just have a regular duplicate key made for about $1.00 from your original. Then if you lock yourself out with the original key inside, this key will unlock the door lock. Remember it will not start your car because there is no chip, but it will get you inside if locked out. It worked for my Tahoe and Grand Marquis. It should work for other vehicles too.

Yes it does have a chip, and yes you'll be buying the expensive key or bypassing the system. http://www.diy-gm-security.com/

need to buy a spare key not too expensive

Alot of the "key blanks"for the newer model vehicles have computer chips inside of the key itself,if this is the case, your local "ACE HARDWARE STORE" can be of great assistance with your key duplication need.

how do you replace a lost key for a lexus rx 330

You need to bring the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) to a Lexus dealer, where they will check that against a stolen car database, and ensure you receive the correct key. This key usually has an internal transponder-computer chip to match the vehicle. Not inexpensive but there's pretty much no way around this.

Hope this helps.

I need a replacement key for my Lexus. It is very expensive thru the dealer. Is there any other site that could make them cheaper. Thanks

Your key has a programable security micro chip inside it. It is either and embedded chip or a transferable one in a **** shell type key.
Some dealers may have generic blanks and cut them to code with a laser cutter. If it is a **** shell type key with touch pad buttons, they simply reinstall the touch pad when equipped. If not the new key must be programmed to the cars security system
There are online sites on ebay, including one in Florida who gaurantees his work and genuine parts, but I would strongly recommend against a generic key online.
