Tip & How-To about Toyota Corolla
There is a known issue with the 2005-2007 Corolla automatic transmission shift logic. The shift points may seem harsh, and the Check Engine light may be illuminated.
There is a technical service bulletin published by Toyota, (TC015-07) that will address and rectify this condition.
(The diagnostic code P2716 will be stored in the computer's memory.)
The repair procedure involves replacing the Engine Control Module (the computer) with an updated unit. There is no other way to rectify this condition, other than replacing the ECU with the updated unit.
Please avoid anyone that wants to install parts in your automatic transaxle. Replacing pressure solenoids will cost you money, and will NOT rectify the issue.
The repair is covered, under the factory warranty, for 96 months, or 80,000 miles, which ever comes first. If the vehicle meets the above criteria (under 96 months old/under 80k miles, the replacement unit will be installed at no charge to you.
I hope that this helps all of you Corolla owners out.
