Tip & How-To about Lincoln Town Car

How to replace the headlamp bulbs in 98 and newer Lincoln Town Cars

In order to replace the bulbs, the headlight assemblies need to be removed from the car.The following instructions make it easy.
The headlights and the grill have a top cover with clips that are unscrewed to remove it..There are about 6 of them. After the cover removal, remove the headlight assembly by pulling up on the two metal tabs on each light assembly or on the later models the few bolts holding in the light assembly. There is an access hole for a 1/4 inch extension to fit through for the bottom bolt. The bolts are 10mm.Then in the middle of the light assembly there is also a plastic tab that must be pushed down with a screwdriver and then the light assembly comes out.Once the electrical connectors are unplugged, the headlight assembly can be removed from the car ,put face down on a towel and disassembled so that the bulbs can be replaced.
The older versions have plastic tabs holding the back covers on,and the newer versions have T 27 torx screws holding the covers together. After the back cover is removed, you will see a collar that holds in the electrical socket that connects to the bulb. mark the collar position with a felt pen.Rotate the collar counterclockwise to remove it.The bulb and socket are then separated and the new bulb installed.Make sure the collar goes on first,as it will not slide over the bulb, only the bulb connector.Seat the new bulb, install the plug onto the bulb then the lock collar and reinstall the back covers.Do not touch the glass bulb surface with your fingers,as the oil will cause the glass to shatter when hot.Handle the bulb by the base only.
Before installing the light assembly into the car plug in the main connectors and check that the light works. If all is o.k., re-install the light into the car. After that, check to make sure that the lock tabs are all in place.Re- install the grill cover and the clips.Make sure that the hole in the grill cover on the driver's side goes over the hood switch for the alarm properly.Check final operation after re-assembly of all pieces.

how do I replace the headlight assembly MN133516

The 2003 Outlander utilizes replaceable (9007) headlight bulbs. If you're looking to replace the bulb(s);
1. Raise the hood.
2. Remove the plastic cover at the rear of the headlamp assembly by rotating it counterclockwise, and pulling it off. This will allow access to the headlight bulb.
3. Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise in order to remove it from the headlamp assembly. Pull the old bulb out of the socket, and use a clean cloth to install the replacement bulb. Do not touch the glass of the new bulb.
4. Place the socket back into the assembly, and twist it clockwise. Reattach the plastic cover, and close the hood.
Are you needing DIY instructions for replacing the entire headlamp assembly? Left (driver) or Right (passenger)?

cobalt 2005 ls headlight bulb replacement

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • 9007 LL halogen headlight bulb
  • Wrench
  • Gloves or clean rag
  1. Step 1 Set the parking brake and remove the keys from the ignition to ensure your Chevy Cobalt won't roll while you're replacing the headlight bulb.
  2. Step 2 Open the hood by pulling the hood release latch located under the instrument panel on the driver's side of the car. Locate the secondary release latch on the front of the hood at the center, slightly towards the driver's side. Slide the latch to the left to release the hood and raise it.
  3. Step 3 Locate the headlight assembly and remove the bolts by turning them counterclockwise. Set the bolts aside in a safe place, so you won't misplace them.
  4. Step 4 Remove the plastic fasteners from the headlight assembly molding. Carefully pull back the front fascia, or molding. You may need an extra pair of hands to perform this slightly awkward task.
  5. Step 5 Grab the headlight assembly and pull it towards the radiator at a slight angle to remove it. This should provide easier access to the headlight bulb and wiring harness.
  6. Step 6 Lift the plastic locking tab on the wiring harness to disconnect the bulb base. Then, disconnect the wiring harness from the bulb socket and remove the black retainer by turning it counterclockwise.
  7. Step 7 Disconnect the bulb socket by turning it counterclockwise. Remove the old bulb from the socket by firmly, but gently pulling it straight out.
  8. Step 8 Replace the old bulb with a new 9007 LL halogen headlight bulb. Put your headlight assembly back together by reversing the steps when you disassembled it. Use 89 inch-lb torque when retightening the headlight assembly

removal of headlight assembly to change headlight bulb on 2007 gmc yukon xl. I see the two screws above but can't tell if there is more to removing assembly. seemed easy initialy, but can't figure it out. It looks impossible to change bulb without removing the headlight housing. Thanks

I am not familiar with the model but the vehicle handbook usually contains instructions and diagrams on bulb replacement. If stuff has to be removed to change the bulb the book will usually tell you to take the car to your nearest dealer.

Many headlamp bulbs need a strong light, a mirror and a great deal of patience...

The 2003 Sable has the same headlight assembly and removal/replacement instructions as the 2001 Sable. Once I had this information in hand, bulb replacement was easy.
