Tip & How-To about Toyota Land Cruiser

Car Over Heating!! Simple Temporary FIX to get you home.

We ,, well most of us have had our cars over heat at times, and sometimes in places that we wish id didnt happen. I will detail a few tricks here to get you on your way or back home safely.

Why do cars over heat?

Simply because it gets too hot!!, There are several reasons for this ,
1.) radiator has no water
2.) radiator is leaking
3.) Thermostat isnt working
4.) Fan isnt working

If your radiator has no water then u have to shut the car off. Use cool water and pour over the radiator cover until it gets cool to your touch (NEVER OPEN A HOT RADIATOR, PRESSURE BUILDS WITH THE HOT WATER AND IT WILL EXPLODE OUT AND BURN YOU). when its cold enough for you to touch, use a damp cloth to open the radiator cap, keeping your face clear of it, Start your engine, and add water to the radiator. (Dont Add Water To a hot engine without starting it)

If your radiator is leaking then allow it to cool a bit and follow the above instructions to get it opened. Crack an egg (whole egg without shell) in the radiator before adding water. (keep engine running) the egg solidifies in the hole and plugs it enough to get you home. If you plan to repair the radiator, u must flush it out first to get rid of the egg and other contents before welding.

The thermostat!!
If this isnt working propperly the fan wont turn on, follow the instructions for the fan below.

Fan aint working
Look closely at the fan you will find you will see a tube of 2 / 3 wires connecting to its motor. it connects there via a clip. unclip it. there will be 2 wires sometimes 3 . One of them is a positive (blue, brown, red) and the other is a ground (black or black stripe) cut them , use extra wires and connect them to the positive and negative of your battery terminals. The ground can also be placed on the body of the vehicle.Remember to disconnect these wires when you get home or it will drain your battery.

There you have it. A few simple to help get you home safely in the event your vehicle overheats.

why when i step on gas i hear a rattleling noise

you didnt give model of car, engine size, or a really detailed story of how this happens... but one place to start looking is for obvious loose things on or near the exhaust system. most times there is a heat shield that covers the catalytic converter that gets its mounts rusted off and then sits on the converter and rattles.

1991 honda civic random wont start, on the random times it wont start the yellow service engin light will come on. battery is good and the engin turns over just wont start.

I have the same problem, It seem to be a relay that doesn't engage making a clicking sound under the fuse panel near the steering wheel happens most of the time when it is hot. playing with the ignition key a few time do the trick for me. wish I had a better explanation/solution for you and myself though.

i have a 1988 s-10 5 speed manual 2.5 liter engine in town has power it moves good on highway won't go over 45 or 50 sometimes it goes 60 it idles high all time drinks alot of gas its got new egr valve, timing gears, throttle sensor, map sensor i set timing but it don't stay in same place it moves around

the timing is computer controlled so it will move around if you didnt disconnect the wire below the heater box under carpet on pass inside of trick it is tan with a black stripe.if the wire wasnt disconnected and you changed timing then the timing will be very retarded and a no power problem will be had. those are good for the cat converter braking up and plugging exaust also

I change the water pump because it was over heating, and than it just stop running

need more details to be more helpful, but from what you have told me id guess that either you didnt hook everything up after that repair or that before you changed the pump, you may have damaged the motor in someother way from the heat.

89 f350 stops feeding gas on hot days

Sounds like vapor lock. A trick for this is get a few WOOD clothes pins. Attach clothes pins to the metal lines under the truck in various locations. The wooden clothes pins are now acting as a heat sink. They help draw the heat away from the fuel system. Pick up another fuel cap, preferably a vented cap to help release the extra pressure caused by the heat.
