Tip & How-To about Ford Expedition

Check Engine Light Being ON!!

Hi,

How many of Us have seen the Check Engine Light Being ON?

Some people Call it as Submarine Light while others might not have any idea How Check Engine Light looks Like?

If the Check Engine Light is ON, more often it Confirms that there is Something Wrong with the Car and the Error is Stored in the Car's Computer Memory.

To Reset, you could try to Unplug the Battery Wire and then plug it after few minutes, say 30 Minutes.

Note - You might need to Enter the Radio Code as Disconnecting the Battery Cable could cause the Radio to ask for a Code to Work. You Should have that code unless your Radio would not work.

If the Light is Still ON, there is no point of Inspecting, Testing and Replacing Components. You need to take the Car to the Dealer / Auto Zone to get it Scanned. Once Scanned, you would have One or Multiple Codes that would inform you what Exactly needs to be done to Fix this.

Remember - There were Certain Bulletin's where Check Engine Light Could be Malfunctioning due to Many Reasons. You could take a look at all the Recalls and Extended Warranty information from the Dealer or Search Online.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

09 Ridgeline showing VTM-4 and Check engine light

Hi, An '09 should be under warranty or I'd least take it in and 'nicely' ask that it be covered under warranty.

This LINK may help w/the VTM-4 info...but not sure about the EGR.

2006 town and country van light is on the dash looks like a submarine what is it

The check engine light.

This light will illuminate to warn you that there is a problem with a computer controlled device, a sensor that feeds data to the computer, or a fault in a system. The vehicle may act and drive normally. Some common causes for this are EGR valves, loose gas caps, and EVAP leaks.

To find out why the light is one you will need to have the computer scanned for codes with a scan tool. Your local parts store may be able to do this for you or for a diagnostic fee have a shop diagnose the problem. Once the problem is repaired the codes can be cleared and the light will turn off.

Engine light came on andwont shut off. No visible

most check engine lights are caused by the fuel cap not being tight enough seen that more than once. on the other hand the light can be caused by parts wearing out (O2 sensor ECT... ) the way to find these problems is to have whats called a diagnosic scanner to find them and those come at a price. places like autozone, carquest, ect... will pull a scan for you pretty cheap. or you can take it to shop at 40+ dollars an hour. thank you for your question

service engine light that looks kinda like a submarine? what does that mean?

does it look like a submarine, or more of an actual engine? I believe it should be a pic of your engine. This light can mean anything from a loose gas cap to an engine misfiring. You'll need to bring it to a garage to have the onboard computer scanned to retrieve the code that will determine what the actual cause is
