think it could mean the mass air flow sensor in the air intake pipe ,but i would test this with a automotive meter and not a code reader to be honest

hi the error code relates to a problem with the mass air flow sensor this is a common problem with this make of vehicle and the meter will need testing to ensure it is the meter at fault only a garage can do this as they have a diagnostic machine that will give them all the air readings allowing them to pin point the exact error.

As for shifting hard into gear i take it yours is a auto box if it is the the fluid level will need checking as this can cause the problem you are having.
