Tip & How-To about Jaguar S-Type

How to find the thermostat on a jaguar s-type

If you are trying to locat the thermostat then follow the instructions after this warning.
This isnt an easy job to do and its not a quick job to do technically its not that hard to do its just that getting to all the parts to undo them is difficult and time consuming so you have been warned

The thermostat is located just behind the top of the radiator, a hose runs from left to right. This hose is also just below the air filter box and the battery box and therefore difficult to see. Just about at the right end of the air filter box the hose has a hard plastic T pipe that branches off in a downward direction. At the lower end of this you'll find the thermostat mounted on a triangular flange and held in place with 3 bolts. The output of this then transitions into about 4" length of hose again before transitioning to an matal pipe that is kind of J shaped. The lower 4" section of hose is held in place by two spring clips, these are a pain to get to by the way. I found it easiest to remove the hose from the thermostat with it still bolted in place, similarly I bolted the new thermostat in place before replacing the hose. This way you have something relatively solid to pull or push the hose against. With that said the J pipe is also a tight fit in the space so none of this is easy to get to, it doesn't help that there is some kind of sensor mounted on the engine just adjacent to the J pipe.

Need instructions for a thermostat change on a 2005 GMC Savanna van with a 4.8L V8 engine.

follow the bottom radiator hose to where it connects to the engine. where it connects is the thermostat housing which is secured by 2, 10mm headed bolts. remove the 2 bolts and the thermostat and seal are behind it. replace the thermostat and seal, secure housing with the 2 bolts, fill with coolant, and you are done it is a very quick and easy job probably easiest from under the vehicle

I have to take off the thermostat on my vw 2000 golf.

can say the 2003 APK 2.0L engines thermostat is located almost vertically behind the alternator, for the job you'll need sockets 10mm and the elbow joint extension for the lower bolt on the thermostat housing. the jobs a little fiddly but made easy with the elbow joint.
care is to be taken when retentioning the plastic thermo housing as it easly breaks and a replacement isnt cheap So just use common sense when re-tightening
others report using the TDI thermostat as its cheaper

replace thermostat on 2004 gmc envoy

The thermostat on this vehicle's (the Envoy & Trailblazer are essentially the same vehicle) In-line 6 cylinder engine is on the driver's side of the engine, below & behind the alternator. It is not found in the typical location (which may be for the 8 cylinder engine), in an answer above.

Most directions outline removal of the alternator to gain easy access to the hose clamps, bolts and housing of the thermostat. I have located a site that after free registration, has detailed instructions on how to do this job, and the link below that describes an easier method with photos. Check out:
