Tip & How-To about 2008 Cadillac Srx
Weekend mechanics that tell you to pull the headlight assembly to change the marker bulb like extra work or like to pad the bill. Yes you need to remove the tire for easier access but not completely necessary. Remove the front portion of the fender well and the socket for the marker bulb is completely accessible.
you want to change the headlight bulb, or the whole headlight assembly? The bulb is easy. There is a round rubber boot, about 3 inches in diameter, on the backside of the headlight assembly under the hood. Behind the rubber boot is the headlamp , secured by a wire clip that holds it secure in place. You pop that wire clip open. Its sort of triangle shaped and clips on to the headlight Assembly. The clip doesn't normally come , just unclip it, and the headlamp will then pull out. Unplug it from the plug by pushing on the release tab. Take the lamp to the auto parts store and buy a replacement. Install in reverse procedure, but make sure not to touch the glass on the bulb. These bulbs get very hot and even slight oil from your finger tips can cause the glass on the bulb to burst. The one on the passenger side is harder to get to because of the battery location. The easiest way to change bulbs is usually to ask the person at the auto parts store to do it for you. Many times Auto Zone and Advance Auto stores will put them in for you.
The headlight assembly is a different story. That is the whole plastic headlight and side marker light that must come out. There are 2 ) 6mm bolts ( 10 mm head) located at the top of the headlamp , sticking in the radiator core support. That's the big piece of metal that goes from inner fender to inner fender which the radiator attaches too. Then there are 2 more bolts on the bottom of the headlamp assembly that bolt to tabs on either side. For the side marker light there are 2 screws in the backside of them against the fender, and a bolt on the bottom. You have to pull the plastic cover inside the wheel well. Might be easiest to pull the tire to get more room. There might be another bolt or screw in there, not sure as its been a while since Ive replaced them. If you replace a headlight assembly, they will cost you around $100 used at a salvage yard or e bay. The side marker lights you can get new for under $40 all over the internet. Hope this helps some
