Tip & How-To about 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera

How to change out anything

Make sure whatever (I mean even the easiest most simple part/sensor etc.) is taken out, is also put in EXACTLY the same way. Take a picture or something because its hard to find manuel or diagrams for this specific car and these have problems all the time it seems. Ex) TPS needed to be changed and when it was changed the "arm" was put in on the wrong side of the "pin" (not easily noticed unless you know that had be messed with and looking directly at it) car idle was extremely high and was easy fix but stupid long time issue.

What does timed out mean

over seer timers are added to controllers to let the operator know that the action (what ever it was) has taken too long , this indicates that even though the function may have occurred , the overseer timer has expired and so it senses a problem , its sort of telling you that there's going to be a sensor failure soon ?

what is a code P0440?

I beleive this code is to do with the evap system/ this is where the fuel fumes are stored and then recycled through a charcaol cannister etc.
This system works mostly on vacuum related pipes so can be caused by something as simple as the fuel cap rubber perished or not put back on tight enough. I even had a car throw up this code because the dipstick wasnt properly in and seated properly, so check these along with any vacuum pipes perished.

Brakeline schematic 1997 jetta

NOt to be a smarta** but the easiest way is to follow each line visually. I'm assuming somebody's worked on it and you want to make sure it's right. Just type in exactly what you have here in yahoo or whatever search engine you like, bing,etc...

service engine soon light is on in my 2000 Grand am GT would could this mean? Just had an oil change and new air filter put in

Unfortunately, this could mean just about anything, however, it is probably emissions related, or a faulty sensor to that degree, or even a loose connector to when the airfilter was replaced. The easiest and most prudent measure is to have the car read with a OBDII scanner, and can even be done free at Autozone, etc.
