2002 Prius will not stay running and runs rough.

Comment from the FixYa moderator staff...

We DISAGREE with the "check the fuel pump" solution.

What you really need to do, is determine if your oil changer is using the CORRECT oil for your car. The correct weight of oil is very, VERY important. You can easily determine if your oil changer is using the wrong viscosity oil....Simply remove the air intake tube from the throttle body, and manually open it. If you see liquid oil present in the intake, you have been wronged by your oil changer. This is a VERY common issue. The wrong viscosity of oil can and will cause you your issue.

We hope that this solution helps you out. Thanks for choosing FixYa for advice

The car suddenly shuts off while I am driving. An

No, not the battery. Check your manual to see if this is a check engine light or a warning light for another system. If the car turns off suddenly while driving, you may have a dirty ISC motor which is a common problem on all Toyotas. It takes about 1.25 hours to clean this (because it is hard to get to) and clean the trottle body. The check engine light may point you to this. Also, there may be a sensor causing all of your woes. TPS or throttle position sensor can do this, but is not the only cause. You may need to first find out if there is a check engine light code first and then go from there.

Help...i am trying to install a new

To replace the mirror glass you need a small tube of bathtub silicon, some black tape and a couple of wooden blocks or shims. Clean the back of the mirror with glass cleaner first and put a good bead of silicon all the way around the back of the mirror about half an inch from the edge. Push it in place and using the shims tape it in place.Stretch the tape as you put it on to keep pressure on the mirror and to make a good bond with the silicon. Leave it for 24 hours and then remove the tape. Hope this helps.

2002 prius inverter died any ideas 160000k it was

I suggest you have a computerised car diagnostic done to read that exact warning light's code and from there you can find out exactly what is causing this. This way you will save money rather by replacing bits and pieces by trial and error.

Hi Hang-ten
The problem has re-emerged but I have cured it each time by simply doing the relays again. It seems to be a problem albeit a minor one.

Windshield wiper solution stained the hood of my car!

Yes. Go to any auto parts store and get a rubbing compound especially for autos. They may even have one especially for your color. This stuff works great.

2002 Toyota Prius needs new transmission

Looking at the age of the vehicle - I would not invest $5000 in it.

Look in your local business pages for second-hand parts dealers, and get a quote for small garages to do the work of replacing it.

Chances are you will find a low-milage transmission for $250, and pay around $200 to have it installed - so for $450 you're good to go again.
If this was a younger vehicle, then yes I would go through dealerships to keep the logbook perfect; But at this age it's only 3 years off it's designed lifetime, and 10 year old vehicles are very low priced.

Loud noise in gas engine

I am a fellow Prius owner, mine only has 8,000 miles though ;-) If I was you I'd just bite the bullet and take it to the dealer. Worst case is you're out the $100 or whatever they'd charge to diagnose the problem. You can always fix it yourself but if they do a proper diagnosis it could save you money in the long run. Does it sound like the noise is internal? You may also want to search or post at PriusChat.com, a Prius forum.p.s. Congrats on getting 189K miles on it already, these cars last a long time, I'm very happy with mine.

Solution to 2002 Toyota Prius transmission problem

I don't know where you got the price quote, but a new one will be $3700 (Then you will need to pay an additional $350 for installation)

A rebuilt is $3300 (Not including removal and reinstallation)

A used one if you can find one will run about $1750 (then you will need to pay an additional $350 for installation)

You can check new, used and rebuilt price here
Give me you state and zip and I will find a local shop that can do it.

I need to boost my 12v battery on my 2002 prius

The bolt screws into a nut. this nut is probably spinning in its housing. While trying to unscrew bolt pull up on cover to lock in nut. You might need an extra hand in doing this. USE enough force that will help lock the nut against housing but DO NOT overdo it and crack cover.

FYI there are other options which I am not keen using. your auto store sells the cigarette lighter booster cable. I am not fond of this idea due to the length of cable involved but it will help. Just let the cars sit for about 10 minutes while both are plugged in and you should be ok.

Front defrost not working

as always, check fuses first. then scan this car, it will show, mode motor errors. huh? those are damper. in the heater box. there are 2 fail points (besides wires) the control is bad, or the damper is failing. The FSM covers this 100% or at alldata.com what tech does is makes sure the control sends the signal the damper (there are 3 types used on all cars) if its damper motor , the FSM shows the damper tests. which are unique to Toyota. and a spec, year, 2006. the mode damper is failing. the only question is why, the answer is simple tests. detailed in all FSM of all cars made. here ill look your up to see which of the 3 type class it is. your car has a ACC brain, a/c controller, this controller runs the show. it gets your inputs from the defrost switch and then sends signals to the mode motor. FSM quote Air Vent Mode Control Servo Motor ControlWhen the mode select SW is pushed, the ECU in the A/C control assembly activates the air vent mode control servo motor. The servo motor rotates to the position (FACE, BI-LEVEL, FOOT, FOOT/DEF, DEF) selected by using the mode select SW, and moves the damper. In auto mode, A/C control assembly controls the damper to move to the best position for the conditions without operating the mode select SW. I SAY SCAN iT using any scan tool that suports full Toyota. full scans including extended factory codes.. i say buy one. here is one. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QIUGVI/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 owning complex cars, and DIY, you need a real scan tool or just guess.
