How do you replace a oil pump on a 2000 avalon

It's my understanding that the Avalon and Camry for said year are the same in respect to the oil pump.I was able to come up with a video to show you how all the stuff has to be removed from the front of the engine in order to get to the oil pump for replacement. This took some time to find, but I do not mind.My friend, you've a lot of work ahead of you.I've been thru it before, and won't do it again.Best of luck to you in your endeaver. URL/YouTube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NvTu1zr-P4 Now the oil pump proceedure in print: Instructions Remove Oil Pump 1 Drive your Toyota Camry up onto ramps or lifts so you have room to work as you pull out the oil pump. You could also use a jack, but make sure you brace the front wheels so they don't roll. In addition, set the emergency break firmly into position so the car doesn't roll. 2 Drain the oil out of your engine and disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the fender apron seal and the undercover, the front exhaust pipe, and the front exhaust pipe bracket from the No. 1 oil pan. 3 Remove the following components in order: the alternator drive belt, the air conditioner compressor, the power steering pump drive belt and the adjusting strut, the timing belt along with the belt pulleys, the rear timing belt cover, the air conditioning compressor housing bracket, the No. 2 oil pan and oil strainer, as well as the No. 1 oil pan and baffle plate. 4 Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor and remove all nine of the oil pump bolts. Remember where each bolt was located. 5 Take out the oil pump body by reaching in and grasping between the oil pump and main bearing cap. Remove the O-ring from the cylinder block then remove the plug, gasket, spring and relief valve from the oil pump body. 6 Finish by taking out all nine screws, the pump body cover and the driven rotors. Clean all components to remove contaminants. Install the Oil Pump 7 Install the new oil pump by slipping it into the same spot where the old one was. Reconnect the following: the driven rotors, the drive pump body cover, all nine screws, the oil pump relief valve, the spring, the gasket and the plug to the oil pump body. 8 Insert a new O-ring onto the cylinder block and add liquid sealant to the oil pump and the engine block. Put the oil pump back on the engine block. 9 Add and tighten the bolts over several passes, keeping the torque even. The 10 mm head should be 69 in-lb. and the 12 mm head should be 14 ft-lb. 10 Reconnect the crankshaft position sensor, torquing the bolt to 69 in-lb. Insert the No. 1 oil pan and oil strainer and the No. 2 oil pan. 11 Reinstall the air conditioner compressor housing bracket, tightening the bolts to 18 ft-lb. Add the rear timing belt cover, tightening those bolts to 74 in-lb. Insert the timing belt pulleys, the timing belt and the adjusting strut and power steering drive belt, tightening those bolts and the nut to 32 ft-lb. 12 Install the air conditioning compressor, the alternator drive belt and the front exhaust pipe bracket to the No. 1 oil pan, torquing the bolts to 15 ft-lb. Add the front exhaust pipe, the undercover, and the right fender apron seal. 13 Connect the negative battery cable and fill the engine with fresh oil. Start your Toyota Camry and look for leaks in your working area.

My car is misfiring

I own a 2000 avalon and had a similar issue, rough idle especially when stopped, car felt like it was going to stall. I had a couple error codes which included one of the o2 sensors and knock sensors. I replaced the pcv valve , and o2 sensor, both easy fixes, but tue knock sensor is in the top half of the engine. Cost me 500 bucks to replace, install knock sensor at shop. After knock sensor was replaced and other o2 sensor replaced, no more idle issues. What happens if an o2 sensor on one of

Alternator problem

Easy way to check with a voltmeter. Check battery voltage on the battery terminals with key off, engine off, and then check voltage with engine running. Engine off, a good battery should have voltage between 12.6 volts and 12.9 volts. With engine running, battery voltage should be a minimum of 13.5 volts, somewhere between 13.5 and 14.5 volts. This would indicate the alternator is good and is charging the battery. If voltage is less than 13.5 volts, if it only shows same volts as when not running, the alternator is not working right. Take it off and have tested for free at a parts store. It could be a bad alternator or it could be that the wiring between alternator and battery has a problem. If alternator tests good, start looking into the connections between alternator and battery. Does your battery or alternator light stay on when engine is running? This would indicate a charging system problem. Time for the voltmeter test.

A sudden loss of power like the engine was turned off (or short in electrical system suppling power to plugs), then, a slight surge, power restored. 'Short' is intermittent. Occurs at high speeds, but

It is possible, in fact likely, that your ECU (main computer) is failing. Less likely, you may have a bad oxygen sensor or other bad sensor. Best first step is take the car to your local auto parts store and have them use an ODB reader to determine the error causing your Check Engine light to be on.
