1999 Toyota Avalon - Page 7 Questions & Answers
My 1999 avlalon runs hot i have change water pump
Hm. did you put a 50/50 solution of antifreeze in or pure antifreeze solution? If pure antifreeze is in there, then it won't cool properly and may overheat.
That's just one cause. Another cause is poor circulation in the block.
A flush may be indicated if you haven't done that.
Good luck on getting your car to not run so hot.
Also, the normal temp. can go up to 220 deg. F or 230 deg. F and still be normal in a GM car. Just don't want any leaks.
How to reset the check engine light on a 1999 toyota avalon xls
You need to have a code reader/scan tool hooked up to retrieve the code/s that triggered the engine light. You can have this done at most auto parts stores for free. Try Auto zone, Checkers, Napa, or Murray's. The engine light will eventually go out if the computer does not receive any codes after many cycles turning the ignition on and off. It will not go out if there are codes still present. After you've retrieve the code/s bring them back here and we will have a better understanding of what caused them.
Can I program a transponder key for a 1999 Toyota
I HAD TO REPLACE THE COLUMNON A 2001 AVALON BECAUSE THE KEY LOCKED UP NOW IT WONT START BECAUSE IT SAYS IM USING THE WRONG TRANSPONDER KEY HOW DO I REPROGRAM THE SECURITY ANTI THEFT TO ALLOW ME TO START THIS CUSTOMER CAR
I have a 97 Toyota Avalon XLS that won't start,
hi it does sound like the starter is stuck, there could be a way to free it and find out for sure if it is u/s, what you have to do is, locate starter on your vehicle, depending on its location you can try tapping it with a small hammer or a long bar of sorts, at the same time get someone to turn the ignition at the same time while you are tapping the starter, this should free the solenoid and then thestarter should work, if it does, turn the motor off, and try again and see if it works if it does your ok, if not then try the above again, if you have to do it every time you turn the motor off then you will need to replace your starter....hope this helps please vote thanks
Need to clean headlight plastic covers on 99
These covers can be clarified ON the car. I recommend Blue Magic headlight lense restorer. It is a cream and applies just like polish, use cotton NO paper towels, or synthetics. You may have to apply more than once to completely remove the pitting as yours seem to be very bad, however do NOT try to do the whole lense at once, the trick is small circles on a small area at a time. Wipe with a COTTON towel/rag to remove the residue, then polish with a clean cotton towel to finish. There are other brands that do the same thing, which I have tried. These products are available at Autozone, Advanced Auto, O'Reillys, and Pep Boys, for about $10-$15. I hope I've answered your question. Do not remove the lenses from the headlight assembly as this will cause the need to replace the entire unit. Thank you for trusting FixYa to help get you going!
Battery died, replaced altenator, got new battery,
Since you replaced both the alternator and the battery, it should be working and the first thing to check is for loose and corroded connections.
In any case, this is what you should do to check the health of your car charging system with the assistance of a good (no need for an expensive unit) digital multimiter:
1) With the car engine not running and ignition off, measure the voltage across the battery: it should read around 12.8 Volts and anything below 10.5 Volts would indicate a faulty battery with possibly one or more shorted cell.
2) With engine running and idling, measure the voltage around the battery terminal: it should read around 13.8 Volts and any thing below 13.5 Volts or much above 13.8 will indicate a faulty alternator OR alterntor regulator.
3) Repeat step two by gently reving the engine: the correct 13.8 Volts should be maintained even with car light on.
Hope it helps: let me know how you go!
Locate computer connector

Can not pin point where this sound is coming from
Try removing the serpentine belt (make sure you have a diagram or draw one) and checking that all the pulleys and accessories spin freely without noise or resistance as a starting point. Keep it simple first if you're going to start by ruling things out.
Blue smoke
Most likely the engine is worn to the point that it is using too much oil. Will not pass inspection. No real fix, unless it is valve stem seals.
