1995 Toyota Corolla - Page 4 Questions & Answers
1995 Toyota Corolla dx. 1.8 motor. Cranks, sometimes stalls but will crank and idle good in park. Once the car goes in park and press gas, it stalls and or even dies. I can drive it if I press the gas
First Thing I would do would be to Put a FUEL FILTER into the car, Second Thing would be to Put a AIR FILTER into the Car.
The Car need to be able to BREATHE, It will also fall Flat on its face if the Fuel Filter is Clogged. A RAG in the Air Intake would cause it to do this... Take the Air Filter off and try and see what happens... Leave the Housing Off (Not Sealed) and does it change the way it runs?
What happens to the way it runs when you change the Fuel Filter?
Next I would put a FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE on it if the first 2 things do not fix the issue...
If you do not have 40 PSI of Pressure, you are starving the car of Fuel.
Electrical Fuel Injection?
Compression Test the Car to see if the engine is bad. Looking at it is not a Way... Testing it will give you the Information you need.
ASK more questions AFTER you change the Fuel Filter and Air Filter..... Todd
Oil promblem
if the car gives white smoke, you may have wornout piston rings
1995 corolla ca sport hearing low puffing sound in exhaust when it leaves muffler
Many of the older vehicles do this and is in essence not a problem. Due to the age of the vehicle the in and/or outlet valves do not seal perfectly causing this puffing. To get rid of it the cylinder head must be removed and the valves need then to be seated again. Costly and unnecessary. Rather check if the tappets are set correctly as this also can cause it. However!! if the tappets are to be found to be set incorrectly it must be rectified immediately as this can cause damage to the valve seats that will result in cylinder head removal -cylinder head overhaul. If every thing checked out fine there is a not so elegant and completely at your own risk option. Take the vehicle out to an open road (Low traffic) Gear up to third gear , increase speed to reach high engine rpm but still driving slow. About 5000 rpm will do. More is OK but please not so high that the engine blows. Maintain this for about half mile and thereafter drive normally for another half mile to cool the engine down. This is done in effort to rid the engine of carbon built-up in the engine and around the valve stems. Sometime it does help and worth a try. High engine rpm is the key but take note excessive high rpm will damage the engine.
When to change automatic transmission
The auto transaxle/differential fluid and filter should be changed every 30,000 miles or 24 months. The transaxle fluid and differential lubricant use the same Dextron III automatic transmission fluid. If you have a three speed automatic transaxle, the transaxle differential has a separate lubricant supply that should be checked every 15,000 miles or every 12 months. By the way........ see if there is a Half Price Books or other used book store in or near your town. I find used repair manuals like Hayes or Chiltons for $8.00 or less all the time. Hope this helps. I have 95 Toyota corolla 1.8 litter I notice when
you must fix the radiator the steamed antifreeze is creating a spray back on the engine and is grounding out a sensor or the spark plug wires causing the stalling it is not good to keep doing this to the vehicle these cars run for ever but not if you keep letting it overheat which is what happens when enough anti freeze leaks out
My 95 toyota corolla makes grinding scraping noise
Bad motor mounts will not usually cause the kind of noise you describe they will cause more vibration to be felt at all times.
Sometimes the brake rotor dust cover plate can rub against the rotor and make a grinding/scraping sound. Raise the car, remove the wheel, and check the clearance between the dust cover and the rotor.
If your shocks/struts are bad the tire could be rubbing against the strut. Check the strut.
Running rough and stalling out and hard to get up
Possibilities include water in the fuel; weak or undercharged battery, car will eventually stop, check tightness of connections to make sure battery is charging. Replace battery with good one. If car drives well, that's your problem.
Check fuel pump. I am not a mechanic, but I recently had this problem. Mechanic's helper forgot to tighten my neg battery connection. Charged battery and tight connects solved problem.
