1993 Toyota Corolla - Page 3 Questions & Answers
My 1993 Toyota Corolla stalls and will not stay running.
If changing the battery does not solve problem, or only solves it until the battery dies then have the alternator tested. I have noticed on several occasions with a couple of my vehicles that at times of very high moisture in the air they do not stay running, once the humidity goes down they are fine.
How do i fix the tachometer?
you have an in cluster factory engine tachometer (RPM)?
the tacho is meter in the cluster and does not use speedo parts or its cable.
its just a meter that needs power, ground and spark tacho signals
if all 3 are good, the meter is bad. period.
the tacho signal goes to the ignition coil minus lug, and will good, as engine runs. so... wires bad, to tacho or tacho bad.
ever price a new one? or even used? $100 used?
you willing to pay that much for just a factory tacho?
there is NO speedo cable. this old 93 is electronic, (rare on most 93 cars made, toy is advanced)
here is the proof, amazing how books dont lie....
there is a speed sensor.
the tacho and speedo use the same power and ground
leaving just one wire,r-g red-green RPM sig. pin 5 of cluster
an is SPARK primary sig. so if only tacho is dead.
then the tacho is bad, or that pin 5 wire is dead.
got you to just 2 possibles.
How do i fix my odometer not working
speedo and odometer dead on old cars is a bad cable
or if at transmission end, it dont spin as you spin rear wheels raised.
the tail shaft of trans spins and 2 funky plastic gears spin there
and then the cable, must spin, if not its busted, and would be obvious why, if you look.
Need timing marks for 1993 1.6 Toyota Corola camshafts
If its the 1.6litre 4afe. Turn the crankshaft to TDC, ie. Tiny slit on the crank pulley should be straight underneath the 0deg mark. The cams, intake cam is driven off the exhaust cam by means of two gears. Installation marks. They have 4 holes in front of the gears. Front being closest to timing belt. Upon installation one hole in each gear should face upwards and the other holes should face each other between the gears. On the exhaust cam pulley there is a hole drilled through it, ie. timing mark. It should face up. Directly inline with the grove in the first cam cap. If you have 1.6litre 4age engine. Between cam gears and cylinder head there should be a plate. groves in cam gears should face the groves in the the plate.
A/c switch not blowing
Check the w/o fuse first. Then, open the hood and in front near the grill is the system. Make sure nothing broke as far as connections, tubes, etc. Simple sight inspection is all you need. If that does not work, let me know. There are a couple more invasive things to check.
