Hi,
Toyotas are great cars when running right. The problem you're having stems from a relay/sensor. Toyota builds into the system a sensor that reads the water temperature then sends a signal to the fan motor to turn until the temperature cools off.
The way to temporarily repair you fan is to splice a wire directly to the fan to the battery positive side. You will need to attach it each time or put a switch in it. I suggest a switch any car parts place will sell you cheap.
Best of it

you will need to remove the housing again and see if there is some of the bolt still sticking up to grab it with a vise grip plier . if not you will need to get it flush with motor and drill and tap it. you can use a heli coil to repair the thread and they sell them in a kit that comes with the drill bit and tap to do the repair. sold at napa or auto zone.

There is only the combination switch, or stalk switch on the steering column, the flasher module, the bulbs, the wires, and the connectors. Plus a possible fuse or circuit breaker. Troubleshooting is the logical process of elimination. Pretty impossible for everything to go bad at once, so it may be the switch or the fuse. Am not sure if there is a fuseable link but I think not. there might be just a plain fuse.

Hello, ect is "Electronically Controlled Transmission." I believe it works something like the over-drive, there should be a button to push to turn it on and off. Hope this is helpful.

Hello csc.
Seen this issue in the past.
It could be a voltage/current issue from the ignition switch.
To check this you need to verify that the circuit is capable to carry enough energy to activate the solenoid.
It may only have enough energy to make it initially click but not enough to keep it engaged.
And because it is intermittent it makes it difficult to check.
I had a 1985 Camry with the same problem.
I ended up running another wire with a start button to the solenoid.
The next time it happened to me I used the start button I had wired in.
I ended up replacing the ignition switch.
It solved my problem.
I hope my experience helps you fix yours.

More than likely it is an intermittent failure of the starter solenoid or the starter relay.
The relay runs about $40 Solenoid about $80
Generally, I see this issue with solenoids where the ejection piston wears and will intermittently (Slowly increasing frequency) hang.

first check to see if you have any coolant in the radiator at all.
the engine should not be getting hot too quick even the fan is not working. you may have a blown head gasket.
you need to check engine compression to see if there is a blown head gasket

If you can dismantle it you may see the mechcanical parts inside of it. You also may be able to get it unjambed too. These are not repairable by licensed repair shops in the United States, only replaced

Hello Sue.
Sometimes the latch mechanism will jam up with something that has dropped inside it. If this happens it would likely need to be unbolted and the debris removed.
It also may have broken the return spring, in which case the seat belt assembly would need to be replaced.
New one may be expensive at the dealer so I would suggest getting one from an auto recycler.
Hope it goes easy to repair for you.
If you have any more questions on this please ask me.

try hitting it as the vehicle is being turned over, if it works you have a faulty solinoid, if it dosent then the starter is dead , if that dosent work, try locating the earth lead that connects the engine to the body that might be broken, to test this, just get a thick length of wire, touch it to the outside of the starter and touch the other end of the wire to the earth on the battery then see how you go hope that helps

You bet.

Also check the timing belt. If the distributor is not turing the fuel pump also will not run.

Hope this tip helps.

You can hold it up temporarily with thumb tacks but the only to fix it is to have it replaced at an auto upholstery shop. By the way it's called a headliner.

There is no way to guess at this problem, you will have to use a multimeter and troubleshoot the circuits. Try first checking for error codes on the computer
