1996 Toyota Camry - Page 5 Questions & Answers
I bought a 2nd new engine 4 my 96 Camry, I used it 4 barely a wk, now it mak a dip sound n vibrates wen I fire it,drags wen I try to mov or wen I go up a lil slope. Pls wat could be wrong with my car?
Most likely, you have either a fuel delivery issue (clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pressure regulator, clogged pickup screen), or your fuel is contaminated. I would recommend replacing the fuel filter, then draining and disposing of all fuel from the tank, then test the vehicle with NEW, CLEAN FUEL in the tank.
Wondering why this car smokes like its on fire when you reach your destenation and turn it off
Hi Robert I'm AL the owner of Big A's Auto Repair
Robert, this question depends on the mileage on the car.
Almost always smoke comes from something leaking. Most likely you have a leak that is reaching the exhaust and you see the burn off after stopping. The reason you don't see the burn off while driving is because its being blown away by the wind as you drive.
Another thing that could cause a lot of steam like smoke is a radiator leak. Here's what I need you to do! Open the hood and look for leaks around the radiator and the engine and transmission. If you don't see any under the hood, then look under the car and see if you see any. The purpose here is to find out what is leaking or that you do not have a leak.
If you do not find any leaks and everything is dry the I would suspect valve seals or oil consumption. Hope this helps and should you need further help visit my auto repair website here:

Fuel indicator
OK, your fuel indicator is wired to a sending unit that is located inside the fuel tank. this assembly is part of the fuel pump assembly. the fuel indicator sending unit is housed in the same assembly as the fuel pump.
The fuel indicator will not function properly if there is a bad ground or, if there is a fault within the sending unit. there is a floater device attached on this assembly and, it raises with the fuel level and lowers when the fuel level is low, sending resistance signals to the indicator gauge on your dash board. these signals can be disrupted if the ground is corroded or, if the sending unit is damaged.
In most cases, replacing the sending unit will fix this issue. if the fuel indicator is stuck on the full mark, check the ground. if the fuel gauge is laying on empty all the time, replace the sending unit.
How change transmission fluid on 96 Camry v6
Most toyotas have a drain plug screw in the transmission pan under the car. Remove the plug and drain old fluid into a waste oil bucket. It should be big enough to hold 3-4 lts. Clean and install the drain plug making sure the copper gasket is intact. Use a funnel and insert it in the transmission dipstick tube to refill. It should take aprox 3.5lt of fluid. If your fluid is really dirty you may want to start the vehicle and shift through the gears then repeat the process.
Steering column won't unlock
The front wheels are at a angle putting pressure on the steering lock , rock the steering wheel from side to side while turning the key.
What can I do to unlock the steering column on my 1996 Toyota Camry?
When the car started rolling it locked it up tight. Try putting the car in neutral, put the key in and push against the car in the opposite direction that it rolled while you turn the key and jerk on the steering wheel. You will need to slightly roll the car back to get it unlocked. Get a buddy to help you push the car if you can.
Hi I have a 96 toyota camry the car overheated . I tried putting 50/50 antifreeze in and it just poured right back out somewhere by firewall area .
I had seen someone talk about a joint inlet ??? I t
Looks like the dark well of mysterious things behind my engine, too. A joint inlet would probably be for a heater hose line, probably the inlet line to the heater core, as the outlet from the heater core back to the engine would enter near the engine front near the water pump. Conventionally speaking, that is.
It's all conjecture until you get a good look at it. Judging from the picture, I would be underneath the engine looking up. That means blocks under the side frame or jack stands, don't trust any jack. A flashlight and a small mirror in hand, look for where coolant could pour out. Look for that hose inlet, and check the "freeze plugs"-one may have popped out- these are round castings in the engine block, open to the water jacket around the block where coolant circulates. Good luck, now that you are under the car and dirty, now I don't have to do it.
Drivers side window inoperateve

It could be many reason for remote is not working ,check the battery with replacing it with fresh new one , check the antenna for remote receiver and then check the connectors to remote receiver control unit under driver sit for loos connection ,if all seems ok you might replace unit
How i do replease cabin air filter
Open your glove box, remove the little shock on the right side
take your hands on both sides of the glove box and squeeze inwards to collapse the sides of the box at the same time as pulling outwards. The glove box will come out or drop down. Behind there is a small cover approx 2" x7" there is a tab, remove it bt unclipping it and pollen filter is inside. Keep in mind there are some with a tray attached to the opening cover, make sure if this is what you have, put the pollen filter under the clips in the tray as it was or you may hear noise after. Also note, if you have leaves inside they will drop inside the fan blade if your not careful. If this happens you can either vacuume them out or use compressed air in vents to try to blow out or use your fingers, of course with it turned off for safety. I always use fingers to reach in and check anyways for leaves or debris. Good luck
